FREEP: Hillary Clinton Book Signing, Vroman's Bookstore, Pasadena
After Friday's harrowing Century City freep, it was about time for a light-hearted, fun event, and the Pasadena Freep of Hillary Clinton's book signing delivered in spades.
You have to wonder about the sanity of the poor folks who lined up as early as 5am to catch a few second glimpse of Hillary and exchange, literally, a few words with the Great Lady herself. And there they were.
Two distinctly different atmospheres pervaded the event. The organized faithful had brought lawn chairs and were sitting around with their friends, laughing and having a good time. Those less well organized were standing, pinched frowns on their faces, waiting with more resignation than patience on their faces.
Many people know that I am involved in the obscure religious cult of Apple Computer. And Apple cultists have a surprisingly similar ritual to this in the opening of a new Apple Store. It inspires similar long lines spiraling around the mall, but there's a very interesting crucial difference: I don't remember seeing any frowns. Those who attend an Apple Store opening find comfort in talking to their fellow Apple owners, as though they've already found a friend. Clintonistas stick with their groups and don't talk except to fellow clique members.
This makes for a very long day. And Hillary had strict deadlines and other places to go, so she was unwilling to stick around and meet her fans, even in the rushed, "five-second visit" format created for her.
Freepers started showing up around 10:00 or thereabouts, and by 11:00 we were out in force. Well, to the extent that our force existed; the freep attracted about six truly dedicated people. But we more than made up for it in creativity and flair.
Joy Angela made a superbly creative Monica, from her kneepads up to her special hairdo. Diotima joined her in the starring role as Hillary, and Bob J's Clintonnocio 2 was beautifully costumed! Heidy-Ho!
A number of people passed us on our side of the street (opposite to the Vroman's line), and most of them were supportive. Too bad we weren't able to convince any of them to join in, as occasionally happens!
If you define the success of an event by the crowd reaction, this was one of the most successful freeps ever. A loud chorous of BOOO!s was heard as soon as people on the other side figured out what was going on. And then there were the pro-Hillary chants, the false mooning and more. The bored, dispirited crowd was now united as one against us -- and happy, for the first time this morning.
We always love to spread a little happiness and joy here in Free Republic!

We are making progress!
(Did you try checking your VOLUME controls?)
Seriously, for every one person who
POSTS a question, there are probably MANY MORE who
only LURK here, but have that same question...
From David's original post: If the video does not play,
or if you hear audio only,
Download QuickTime to view
David is one of those "creative" types that seem to like Apple, for some reason. :o)
In any event, it may help you to go to:www.apple.com/quicktime/download
... and download the LATEST version of the Apple QuickTime software - for FREE.
Please let me know if this works.

RonDog, Thanks for the link and download help in post #25!
I'm downloading the video right now!
I've tried to downloade Adobe Reader documents in the past and doing the "right-click / save-target-as" was the only way I could download anything. Is this because files are larger now?
It's so great that DavidDennis put this together
before he left for vacation!

Loaded the quicktime and it played choppy. Not a smooth video. It was like watching a slide show.

It sounds like your performance is limited by your
Internet connection.Have you tried to download the entire movie file to your hard drive, and THEN play it - as opposed to trying to watch it online as a "streaming video" - from David's server?
THAT may help improve your video performance considerably, plus this way, you will then have a PERMANENT copy to enjoy in the future - even when you are OFF-line.
(It worked for ME.)

Very well done, both the FReep and the video. Great quality and length in a relatively small file (for video).

I had the same problem initially. Try this: Open player, hit edit, choose Preferences, choose Quick Time Preferences, from drop down menu choose Sound Out and pick Windows Preferred Device, then from the same menu choose Update Check, make sure are online and hit update. For me, it downloaded the Indeo 5 plugin and then played both picture and sound.

Those are our old stomping grounds! Vroman's on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena! We used to live in San Marino, near Pasadena. I LOVE Pasadena. We went to a book signing at Vromans for Jimmy Stewart (late 1980s) and another one for Rudy Guiliani(2002). Jimmy was the perfect gentleman, and Rudy is much more handsome in person! Both where just delightful to meet in person. Sounds like you all had a great time. We should have had a Freep Event FOR Rudy at Vroman's last year. It was on a Sunday morning. We felt guilty about missing church - until we ran into our pastor's wife and son there - getting Rudy books signed.
Barbara back in TX.... sigh.....

I love it!
You know, maybe it's time to start using reverse psychology on those Kool-Aid drinkers. Lurk in bookstores and when you see a devotee reach for her book, move in for the kill... Say something like, "Don't you just love her? You know, she calls me every morning to chat and I can't wait for her to be Queen!"
But with your wit, I'm sure you can come up with something even better, LOL!

I really enjoyed DavidDennis' video!
Everyone was on it! We were having so
much fun it looked a party!
It's amazing that the Hillarities were
so droll and angry...
What do they have to be angry about?
Isn't Hillary "Their Queen" coming
to share the kingdom with them
after she climbs into her throne?
Maybe, just maybe their anger is really
at God, and they look up to Hillary,
because she managed to be a success,
despite her atheism and constant strategizing.
Hillary is their heroine.
Because without her, they have nothing.
NO wonder they are so upset.
