FREEP: Hillary Clinton Book Signing, Vroman's Bookstore, Pasadena
After Friday's harrowing Century City freep, it was about time for a light-hearted, fun event, and the Pasadena Freep of Hillary Clinton's book signing delivered in spades.
You have to wonder about the sanity of the poor folks who lined up as early as 5am to catch a few second glimpse of Hillary and exchange, literally, a few words with the Great Lady herself. And there they were.
Two distinctly different atmospheres pervaded the event. The organized faithful had brought lawn chairs and were sitting around with their friends, laughing and having a good time. Those less well organized were standing, pinched frowns on their faces, waiting with more resignation than patience on their faces.
Many people know that I am involved in the obscure religious cult of Apple Computer. And Apple cultists have a surprisingly similar ritual to this in the opening of a new Apple Store. It inspires similar long lines spiraling around the mall, but there's a very interesting crucial difference: I don't remember seeing any frowns. Those who attend an Apple Store opening find comfort in talking to their fellow Apple owners, as though they've already found a friend. Clintonistas stick with their groups and don't talk except to fellow clique members.
This makes for a very long day. And Hillary had strict deadlines and other places to go, so she was unwilling to stick around and meet her fans, even in the rushed, "five-second visit" format created for her.
Freepers started showing up around 10:00 or thereabouts, and by 11:00 we were out in force. Well, to the extent that our force existed; the freep attracted about six truly dedicated people. But we more than made up for it in creativity and flair.
Joy Angela made a superbly creative Monica, from her kneepads up to her special hairdo. Diotima joined her in the starring role as Hillary, and Bob J's Clintonnocio 2 was beautifully costumed! Heidy-Ho!
A number of people passed us on our side of the street (opposite to the Vroman's line), and most of them were supportive. Too bad we weren't able to convince any of them to join in, as occasionally happens!
If you define the success of an event by the crowd reaction, this was one of the most successful freeps ever. A loud chorous of BOOO!s was heard as soon as people on the other side figured out what was going on. And then there were the pro-Hillary chants, the false mooning and more. The bored, dispirited crowd was now united as one against us -- and happy, for the first time this morning.
We always love to spread a little happiness and joy here in Free Republic!

Way to go, guys! I did a spontaneous mouse-freep yesterday, I guess you could call it. I was in the book section of Walmart, confirming that Coulter's book wasn't there, wondering if perhaps I might one day sneak little notes in Hellery's book... well wondering, ok? As luck would have it, a lady came up and picked up a Hellery book. She was what one might expect of a Hellery koolaid drinker: drab, slow, depressed-looking.
I told her, "Did you know that Hillary's husband pardoned bomb terrorists for votes?"
She looked at me as though I were a lunatic and didn't say a word. As she walked off I said, "They were members of the FALN."
She sped up a little.
Sure, she's so ill informed I'm sure she thinks I'm a crack pot. But when she gripes about me to others, hehehe. Someone might set her straight.
Anyway, good work, guys!
FReegards....

Yes, I hope they never forget about Chinagate, Waco, Vince Foster, the pardoned crack dealer, the pardoned terrorists, and well maybe if time is left over, Monica.

Nope. The shear, knee length socks cover up the grungy stuff...heheh.

For those unfrotunate FReepers with SLOW Internet connections, you could DOWNLOAD the file to your hard drive, and then play it from there.
For the traditional "PC/Internet Explorer"-types, this means that you RIGHT CLICK on the link below:
http://www.amazing.com/politics/freeping/2003-06-29/hillary-2003-06.movThen click on "Save Target As" - and choose where you want it to go.
(Perhaps in "My Downloads" - or WHEREVER you would like it to be.)
Later, you can open that file - which is now stored on YOUR hard drive - whenever you want to, using the QuickTime software - which you can download (for FREE) from Apple.
(I hope that this helps SOME of you.)

I was using direct export from Final Cut Pro 4.0 for the Mac. I believe I used Sorenson 3 compression.
Looks pretty good, but isn't small :-(. I'm a broadband bandit myself, so I tend to be a little less merciful towards the bandwidth challenged than I should be :-(.
I'm glad so many people are enjoying the video, and with so little technical trouble!

Excellent use of video. I would love to know what you did to compress this so small, as i would like to use it for FReeper reports myself.
Great job!

Love the pictures!
Unable to open the video. :(
Please try again NOW.WE apparently generated some rather CONSIDERABLE TRAFFIC on David's website initially. :o)
FWIW, this movie file is fairly LARGE - at
11.3 MB - so it might take a while to download.
(Perhaps as much as HALF AN HOUR on a 56k dial-up modem.)
But if you follow the RIGHT CLICK and "Save Target As" advice posted above, you should be able to download it to your hard drive ONE TIME (while you go to Starbucks) - and then WATCH IT as often as you like - OFFLINE.

Hey David why don't you arrange a public showing. If they kick you out of a hotel lobby you can take it to a legislative office and...............on second thought, never mind.
