After Friday's harrowing Century City freep, it was about time for a light-hearted, fun event, and the Pasadena Freep of Hillary Clinton's book signing delivered in spades.

You have to wonder about the sanity of the poor folks who lined up as early as 5am to catch a few second glimpse of Hillary and exchange, literally, a few words with the Great Lady herself. And there they were.

Two distinctly different atmospheres pervaded the event. The organized faithful had brought lawn chairs and were sitting around with their friends, laughing and having a good time. Those less well organized were standing, pinched frowns on their faces, waiting with more resignation than patience on their faces.

Many people know that I am involved in the obscure religious cult of Apple Computer. And Apple cultists have a surprisingly similar ritual to this in the opening of a new Apple Store. It inspires similar long lines spiraling around the mall, but there's a very interesting crucial difference: I don't remember seeing any frowns. Those who attend an Apple Store opening find comfort in talking to their fellow Apple owners, as though they've already found a friend. Clintonistas stick with their groups and don't talk except to fellow clique members.

This makes for a very long day. And Hillary had strict deadlines and other places to go, so she was unwilling to stick around and meet her fans, even in the rushed, "five-second visit" format created for her.

Freepers started showing up around 10:00 or thereabouts, and by 11:00 we were out in force. Well, to the extent that our force existed; the freep attracted about six truly dedicated people. But we more than made up for it in creativity and flair.

Joy Angela made a superbly creative Monica, from her kneepads up to her special hairdo. Diotima joined her in the starring role as Hillary, and Bob J's Clintonnocio 2 was beautifully costumed! Heidy-Ho!

A number of people passed us on our side of the street (opposite to the Vroman's line), and most of them were supportive. Too bad we weren't able to convince any of them to join in, as occasionally happens!

If you define the success of an event by the crowd reaction, this was one of the most successful freeps ever. A loud chorous of BOOO!s was heard as soon as people on the other side figured out what was going on. And then there were the pro-Hillary chants, the false mooning and more. The bored, dispirited crowd was now united as one against us -- and happy, for the first time this morning.

We always love to spread a little happiness and joy here in Free Republic!

I would like to apologise for taking so long to write this report and getting the video out. I was trying out new video compression software which wound out being quite a bit more difficult to use than I'd hoped :-(. In addition, I've been swamped preparing for my trip to Rio which starts today.

As many of you may remember, I dropped my Canon XL1 MiniDV camcorder on Friday while attending thte Century City Freep. You will be pleased to hear that the camera has now been repaired and looks like it's running better than ever! It's going to Brazil with me after all; I am relieved!

LA CHAPTER | 6/29/03 | Diotima
Posted on 06/29/2003 7:52 PM PDT by diotima

Hillary came to the Los Angeles area to shill her wanna-be best seller, the one with over 20 billion copies produced on the first run.

Waiting outside Vroman bookstore today, was the cream of the crop of mindless liberal sheep.

It was a sight to behold...

As I posted previously:
...HERE is a short excerpt from the [Vast Right Wing] L.A. Times:
Clinton Draws Long Line, Short Tempers
*Not all the 1,000 fans who show up for the Pasadena book signing get to meet or see her.

-- snip --

...But at Vroman's, with 800 copies available and a two-book limit per person, nearly half of the crowd did not make it inside for the signing.

As hours passed and the line stretched, some in the crowd that had started out like a friendly "tailgate party," as one woman described it, turned nasty.

"It's a madhouse. I'm irate," said Edmund Urquiza, 37, of Burbank, who staked his spot in line at 6 a.m., but left at 1:30 p.m. without a signed copy...

Sen. Hillary Clinton helps launch L.A. medical research center
Sunday June 29, 2003

By SANDRA MARQUEZ
Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES (AP) Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said she likes playing a game when she reads the morning paper, distinguishing between the "scandal du jour" and the "trendlines" that will make the world a better place.

The dedication Sunday of the Saban Research Center, an 88,500-square-foot state-of-the-art research facility at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles, was such and event, Clinton told a gathering of philanthropists, scientists and doctors...

-- snip --

...Stepping up to the microphone after a shower of accolades, the Sabans, who made headlines last year for making a $7 million donation to the Democratic National Committee, shared their personal connection to the public hospital...

NOW we know why the Hildabeast abandoned HUNDREDS of her "little people" in Pasadena so abruptly...
"Power to the people?"

Here is the "honor roll" for the "Haunting Hillary!" FReep in Pasadena:
Joy Angela as an ADORABLE "Monica" - wearing a blue dress, black beret, and KNEE PADS!

diotima as a [MUCH too attractive] "Hillary, the money-grubber" - wearing dollar sign glasses, and a black 'Old Crusty' pantsuit

Bob J as "CLINTON-occhio" - wearing a 'Queen Hillary' mask, with GIANT nose, and lederhosen!

RonDog as "Bubba" - wearing prison stripes, and Bill Clinton mask, covered with bright red kisses

bellas_sister - wearing Hillary's favorite, the traditional "Devil" mask (courtesy of the DC Chapter)

ALOHA RONNIE - who actually looked NORMAL, wearing his bright yellow "7th Cavalry" jacket

rodeo_mamma - who ALSO added some much needed respectability to the rest of us CRAZIES.

and

daviddennis - FR's own FReep videographer extraordinare, who documented EVERYTHING

plus

tallhappy - as the "stealth" FReeper :o)

and

our special "not-yet-registered-to-post-here" FRiend and "behind the scenes" tactical advisor, Randy Herrst (from www.studycrime.org)

plus

absalom01 - who missed being in the PHOTOGRAPHS, but was there when we needed him, to talk with the late-arriving reporter from the L.A. Times.

Way to go, LA Chapter!

David,

Great video! You cought the essence of the cheerful fun on the FReeper side, and a hint of the miserable nastyness of the opposition.

I particularly liked the guy who stopped to argue with you. What a character!

We actually had TWELVE FReepers and FRiends at this event, if you also count Marline, the "opera singer" - who is seen in the group picture (posted aboove) - giving me her contact information...
...which was a respectable turnout, considering that "Hillary! the Heathen" chose to arrive early on a SUNDAY MORNING...
...AND, we also just came off of an exhausting MAJOR FReep two days earlier:

FREEP REPORT: Century City "Thank GOD it's W" after-action report
amazing.com [my web site] ^ | 06/28/2003 | David H Dennis
Posted on 06/28/2003 11:30 PM PDT by daviddennis

In the early evening of the 27th of June 2003, Freepers gathered in Century City, near the Century Plaza Hotel, to express support for President Bush, his liberation of Iraq, and other issues.

Freepers came out in force - at its peak, we had a few hundred people enthusiastically waving signs, banners and - most of all - American flags...

[Here we are, from across the street]

From the RATs' own website, at www.la.indymedia.org:

It is truly a sad commentary on the state of Los Angeles media that the ultra-left indymedia.org is more "fair and balanced" than the "mainstream media" here...

My best guess is that WE had about a hundred or two, and THEY had about a thousand or two.
More in an after action report by one of my fellow FReepers - soon...

BTW - The character is Clinnochio not Clintonnochio...it retains the original cadence.

ALSO - This costume is available to FRN Chapters if they want to use it! All you need is a white shirt and black shoes! We also have a clinton mask and banners...

"Thank God It's W"
"Bush Won, Get Over It!"
"Question A.N.S.W.E.R."
"America Can't Trust HILLARY!"

Chapters just pay shipping! If there are other ideas for banners, the FRN will produce them and also make them available for FRN Chapter FReeps! The idea is to get an inventory of reuseable items that can be moved around the country and save Chapters some money!
