[history]
For Bacon and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, 6 degrees or more is what scientists predict the average temperature on earth could increase in the next century.
"There's nothing really good about global warming," says Bacon, the star of 1993's 6 Degrees of Separation who last week headlined the Earth Communications Office's Climate Star benefit to raise awareness about global warming. "It creates famine, drought and will increase disease. It's a weapon of mass destruction."

Kevin Bacon's acting career has gone to pot.
He's now trying to find a career somewhere and is trying the eco-route.

says Bacon, the star of 1993's 6 Degrees of Separation Uhhh, Kevin Bacon wasn't even in Six Degrees of Separation, let alone the star of it.

Kevin Bacon is now calling global warming a "weapon of mass destruction"??
He's got some balls saying that, when we've got people in our military facing REAL enemies and REAL weapons.

But most Americans do not see the urgency of the problem.
Maybe because in NC it is June and it is about normal maybe a little under in temp. 94 degrees here today and as far back as I can remember(32 years) It has always hit 90 or more in June. Nothing to see here. Also, if I remember correctly liberals have said the earth's temp would rise to dangerous proportions as much as 17 18 years ago. So by their calculation it should be averaging 104 by now.

"The most important thing to understand is that global warming is happening now not ten years from now but right now," Mimi - Then why was this winter so ^@#$ing cold???
Epstein says, the urban-dwelling, bird-biting mosquito responsible for spreading West Nile Culex pipiens thrives in drought conditions
Aren't Mosquitoes most active in WET areas? Which has more mosquitoes? Arizona, or Michigan(it's our state bird)?

These folks talk about the negative health effects to humans of all this global warming. Then suggest grownups wear deet. Yep, now there's consistancy if I ever heard it. Children shouldn't wear it because it's toxic, but adults shouldn't worry at all. This from the folks that damn poluted water, dirty air and other maladies. Deet on the skin is neat. Just wear it like suntan oil, no problem.

A few good solutions:
Aside from reducing greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming and more droughts, there are protective measures that people can employ. Hmmmm, how about banning volcanic eruptions since just one of these babies creates a lot more greenhouse gas emissions than manmade processes.
Cities and towns can release bacteria larvicides that kill the mosquito larvae before they become adults.
"Some municipalities are already doing this in the East and parts of the West," Epstein says. "But this should be done in virtually every city in the U.S. this summer."
This sounds a little dangerous; introducing bacteria into the ecosystem might have dangerous repurcussions. Perhaps we shouldn't have been so hasty in having the FDA ban DDT and other effective insecticides.
Other prevention measures include:
Removing any standing water from their property
Can you say "Wetlands Act"? I thought you could. You try removing standing water from your property and see if some enviro-wackos don't descend on your @$$ faster than you can say "algore".
Also recommended is:
Wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants to provide a barrier.
Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants in this hotter, global-warmed sauna?!! Are you crazy?!
Using repellants such as N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET). While DEET is the most powerful and commonly used repellant, some people are concerned about toxicity issues, especially with children. For those concerned, Epstein recommends citronella-oil based products, which are far less toxic, but must be re-applied every 20 minutes or so.
What?! Has the EPA and the FDA and OSHA approved this?
I'm glad all these extremely knowledgeable hollyweird entertainers are here to inform us of important issues like "global warming". I think the hot air they spout is probably responsible for about 99.997% of the perceived global warming around here.

Yeah, I get all my science news and lifestyle tips from Hollywood celebrities. Watching "Entertainment Tonight" on TV is sort of like attending a college course.

The article is all over the map. It goes from talking about global warming to West Nile Virus. I'm surprised it didn't throw Sars in there too. The piece also makes out as if global warming is a fact and we ignos in middle America just want to bury our heads. Of course United States citizens are responsible for it and there is something we can do about it. I know, we can be more like the hypocrite stars who drive around in there 50 gas guzzling cars and live in land consuming air conditioned homes and have their own jets and then we can support liberal candidates who will tax us to death to get rid of this liberal concocted and promoted threat. How trendy of Mimi Rogers. She has got her own global warming group. I saw her once or twice on Maher's old show--she was quite the obnoxious, think I know it all liberal--the female version of Mike Farrell.

Six degrees is also a good approximation of the temperature of Kevin's career. Remember 'Hollow Man'?
