Rice wins College World Series(Bushes/Delay whip Pelosi/Boxer/Feinstein/Davis)
espn ^ | 6/23/03 | An average proud Texan

Congrats to the Rice Owls, who continued this year's tradition of Texas teams ousting California ones in unfrozen sports.

Rice U.(of Houston) defeats Stanford 14-2, the most lopsided championship game in CWS history, winning the series 2-1. Coach Wayne Graham can add the division I crown to his numerous titles his team earned at San Jacinto Junior College(also in Texas). And best of all, Rice EARNED their national title on the field, marching through the playoffs, no bogus mythical title from a sham 1-game matchup setup by computer geeks, AD water boys, and loser sports writers. Champs, without dispute or doubt. Rice's first nat'l champ in any sport.

And congrats to Stanford, they handed Rice its only defeat at the CWS.

Every now and then even the little guys rise to the top. First ever, and sweet as can be. Especially for all the Houstonians whose sports history is full of heartbrinking losses at the brink.

Congrats to Rice! I think its awesome when a little school wins something like that, reminds me of when the Canes beat Nebraska in football back in 1983, but I digress.. For the most part, College Baseball is devoid of the nonsense that seems to be a part of NCAA Football, no place for thuggery and bad sportsmanship.

Well, I can't say I'm unhappy to see a loss pinned on the "Hey hey, ho ho, Western Civ has got to go" university.

Besides, Stanford has 84 national championships already. It was high time for a little David-whomping-Goliath action.

yer makin my heart break! Still waiting for my Bills to win a Super Bowl, my Sabres to win a Stanley Cup, and will never live down the shame of our Basketball team leaving town to become the LA Clippers.

But as a Damn Yankee that moved to the south, I at least have my Georgia Bulldogs and Herschel Walker's single handed dismantling of Notre Dame for the 1980 NAt Champ, and the Braves finally putting it all together in 1995.

CONGRATS RICE! It's good to see the Little Guys win one!

Rice

Congratulations to the Owls! Wonderful to see two of our greatest academic universities in the finals. As far as I could tell, in terms of athletic ability, sportsmanship, and intelligence (even coherent interviews with the media!), the representatives of these two schools distinguished themselves.

I don't know that it really has political overtones, but it was fun to see.

My son's high school has more students than Rice University does.

You know who was the biggest loser in this, though? The University of Texas. Rice's ability to attract new talent just went through the roof.

What a neat game -- I finished watching the game before coming on the computer! Was so glad to see Rice whip Stanford, Chelsea's school!

Am so glad to see the Rice Owls get their first National Championship in any sport!

Cinderella finishes FIRST!

Mel Renfro screwed over gives birth to instant replay,

Sir, that was Mike Renfro, the white wide receiver who played for the Oilers not Mel Renfro the black defensive back who played for for the Cowboys.

Congrats, Owls, btw...
