Contrary to union propaganda, teachers are not underpaid. I say this as someone with 28 years of experience in conducting salary surveys and designing pay plans.

According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, local elementary school teachers earn about the same average pay on an hourly basis as local reporters ($23.74). They also earn more than microbiologists ($20.60), zoologists ($17.36) and accountants ($22.49). Secondary school teachers even earn more per hour than civil engineers.

True...but money and teachers are less of an issue than the families who predominately send their children to public schools in urban areas.

Lack of familial support to be precise. No teacher can compensate for that.

Teachers only work 8 months a year and if they hang on for 30 years they can expect to receive a pension that pays them ~80-85% of what they were making while in the classroom. Those who can, do, those who can't, teach.

Perhaps conditions in my state (Texas) are different than those in your state. Where do you live that teachers work only 6 hours/day? Also, what are the "gubmont benefits" that you speak of? I may consider moving to your state (or not).

I have friend who did precisely that. By the time he left teaching (Phys. Ed. and Health) he was making $105,000/year. Retired at 80% to a house in the Hamptons.

In one of the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, one of the teachers' unions recently threatened to go on strike because of "low pay". The salary range for teachers in this particular district is approximately $70K - $105K.

All I know is, teachers I've known have it darned good, yet are constantly whining. After two months off in the summer, they dare to whine (in front of people who have to toil 50 weeks a year for less money) that "the summer went by soooo fast, and now we have to go back to work, oh, boo hoo!!" It seems like every other month they have a week off for this or that, ("oh, it's spring break, it's winter break," it's this, it's that.) They take fabulous vacations, which they then write off on their taxes because they supposedly use the vacations to teach their students about whatever culture they visited. They drive sports cars, then complain that the special, cheap car insurance that they get as teachers does not cover their sports cars. I have little sympathy for them.

No the real problem is the teachers, the unions and the money. Lazy parents will always be lazy, no matter how much teachers and unions are taking advantage of tax payers. Stupid, lazy parents are similiar to union thugs, and many teachers ,because they all have an entitlement attitude.

I am now expecting the RINO teachers to flame me and tell me no one understand how hard they work ,and how underpaid they are , and they never get three months off in the summer and two paid weeks vacation in the school year. That they don't have paid sick days and that they don't get home at 3:00.

I have said it before and I will say it again , teaching in public schools is the cushiest job around.

Most teachers I know are glorified public servants. They just get way more perks and pay than the janitors at the local court house.

Well you have school from 8 to 3, thats 7 hours. But you get an hour for lunch. That in my book is 6 hours. As far as benefits go, the unions push hard in my state, well I should say city. Jobs are hard to come by and the teachers aren't quitting there jobs, and they aren't hiring more teachers. I assume if the benefit package was bad, wouldn't they quit?
