That salary is far from the norm. In Texas, where I live, teachers make in the vicinity of $35,000 a year.

Please do research before you post. This would involve going to an internet search engine and searching ohio teachers salary. You will quickly find several links to websites and articles that give median or mean salaries for the state of Ohio. I will save you the time and post some reading information for you.

Please read the part about some Ohio teachers starting out at 28k a year. Also, read the salary adjusted for cost of living article.

I really hate to flame on people buy even if your one example is true (highly doubtful) you cannot make a generalized response based on one instance without coming off as an idiot. Here is an example:

I work in the 3rd highest paying district in the state of KS and lets assume that I have a Dr. in education along with 24 years of experience. Since I only make 54k a year, it surely must be true that ALL teachers in the US are underpayed.

See how stupid generalizations can become.

Now I have nothing against homeschooling, some of my best students have been homeschooled in their past, but please find me a parent that is qualified (or even has the ability) to provide a lab based chemistry experience. Or can teach calculus or physics or knows how to perform disections of small mammals. Stupid generalizations lead to people making stupid generalizations about your intelligence. Please read up on Samuel Clemens before you open your mouth and remove all doubt again.

In the name of full disclosure: I have taught for 8 years in public education as a hs math teacher. I currently make 43k a year. I have two bs degrees (math and chemistry) and a ms degree (education) along with 32 additional GRADUATE hours (not community college credit, another stupid idiot). Since I aknowledge my large ego, I am stastically smarter than most people (confirmed by ACT, GRE, PRAXIS, PLT, ASVAB, etc) and I definetly CAN DO (another stupid idiot) but CHOOSE to teach. And yes, some teachers make too much, some make too little but this is true in any industry.
