Democrats Shunning Gun Control

Democrats appear to have abandoned gun control as a political wedge, declining to push the issue in Congress despite being given the opportunity by congressional Republicans. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, upbraided President Bush earlier this month for not pushing fellow Republicans to bring the assault-weapons ban up for reauthorization before it expires in September 2004. "The president has announced that he supports the assault ban, and it would be helpful if he used his good offices to do that," Mrs. Pelosi said at her last weekly press briefing before the Memorial Day recess. "I don't know whether he intends to or not." House Republicans consider it a pretty safe bet that he won't, and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas has stated that the chances of a renewal of the ban coming to the House floor are slim. Yet Democrats still have options

Isn't it interesting how those how are supposedly "anti-gun" are always the first to suggest using guns against those with whom they disagree?

The problem with your stance is that the left is so vehemently charged to take away our rights, that they'll never stop. All it takes is a few moments of weakness and they can ram this legislation through. How do you think they got the Assault Rifle Ban passed?

A "defense" game is a losing game. Eventually the other side scores. What needs to happen is to repeal and roll back the gun control measures, starting with making sure the AW ban sunsets.

Once the AW ban sunsets, and "pre-ban"-type stuff is once again made, enough people will stockpile such stuff that it would be decades before private supply was exhausted, should another ban be imposed

The big one is the Gun Control Act of 1968, which imposed record-keeping on FFL's. If we were able to cancel THAT, then the feds would no longer have a way to maintain records on what's in private hands, and registration/confiscation would be impossible

Here's the tricky part.

Do we hope they keep trying and losing elections or do we hope they see the light and the dem party comes back even stronger so they can start this junk all over again?

I would say I hope they quit trying to pass gun control. We have long memories and we won't vote for them if they all became life members of the GOA.

Sadly, here in the Sheeple's Republic of New York, both the Republicans AND Democrats continue to argue for more limitations on our Second Amendment rights. I was even at an acquaintance's birthday party recently in NYC, where a Republican lawyer argued that supporting the Second Amendment was costing us votes.

I say, screw Lawn Guyland, New Jersey and Chicago's North Shore suburbs. We have picked up MORE votes on defense of RTKBA issues than we have lost.

Since I was ta the same dinner, I should emphasize that he was a LAWYER. Lawyers believe the more laws there are, the more work they have. The Repuiblican part should ban lawyers from membership.

FWIW, you might try my formatting approach: I copy the whole article to an MS Word document, do the formatting there so I can visualize what it will look like when it covers the whole screen.

I knew I goofed as soon as I saw it. I do the formatting when it's first copied but I think I distracted myself because I wasn't sure I wanted the whole article.

I think that's my fourth posting.

The article really doesn't mean that much to people in California, Illinois or the Northeast states.
