Democrats Shunning Gun Control

Democrats appear to have abandoned gun control as a political wedge, declining to push the issue in Congress despite being given the opportunity by congressional Republicans. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, upbraided President Bush earlier this month for not pushing fellow Republicans to bring the assault-weapons ban up for reauthorization before it expires in September 2004. "The president has announced that he supports the assault ban, and it would be helpful if he used his good offices to do that," Mrs. Pelosi said at her last weekly press briefing before the Memorial Day recess. "I don't know whether he intends to or not." House Republicans consider it a pretty safe bet that he won't, and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas has stated that the chances of a renewal of the ban coming to the House floor are slim. Yet Democrats still have options

Democrats Shunning Gun Control.

"The president has announced that he supports the assault ban, and it would be helpful if he used his good offices to do that," Mrs. Pelosi said."

Great. All we have to do now is get the Republicans to do the same.

Ms. Peolosi said, "...when the issue is ripe." I wonder if they are planning on creating an incident

Possibly, but even without getting fitted for a tinfoil topper, one can already see the "preparation of the battlefield" in the media, from the gun grabber organizations, and so forth.

I wondered how long it would take for some one to pick that out.

I agree. I don't believe the democrat party will ever give up their quest to disarm citizens. Democrats are in a desperate attempt to merely survive. The recent efforts to triangulate. Move toward a moderate "image" vs their regressive leftist reality. (see hilary's supposed faux anoying of far leftist colegues of hers.)

We need to keep up the pressure and vote to ensure the electoral extinction of the democrat party. The Democrat party must go the way of the dodo bird. (lunch)

Hee Hee Hee, they really are desperate! They know this is a losing issue with the citizens, and so they show that they aren't really committed to this afterall!
Hypocrites!

Let's hope that they'll also abandon homosexuality and abortion one of these days.

"Whoever is advising them on gun control should be shot."

OK with me. I think that all of these Socialists should be shot on general principle. They are all traitors to the Constitution.

"... Just like that shootout in Glendale CA. yesterday when they said a "Machine gun" was involved.

Anyone hear anything after the guy was killed and what kind of firearm was really used?"

Saw on another board where they reported that after the action a cop was seen holding a captured Ruger 10-22 with a synthetic folding stock and a Butler Creek 'Hot Lips' magazine.

Just an ordinary .22 plinking rifle.

Are you serious?

I told a friend last night that I wondered if it was some kid with a .22 and I haven't seen the TV news in a couple of days.

It may have been because the media claimed one thing and I was commenting on the other side of the spectrum.

You are correct, archy; statist scum like this Rummel character never consider having to do the shooting themselves. They always depend on the taxpayer funded agents of the state to act on their behalf. As Travis McGee is fond of pointing out, their viewpoint will change rapidly when they cannot even go out to fetch their morning newspaper or make the "100 yard dash" through the Target parking lot without breaking a cold sweat.

This comment naked unviels the raw hatred of the gungrabbers. It also reveals the desperation they currently feel.

Typical leftist hypocrisy -- if a pro-gun person made similar statements, the media would be all over it. Since it's one of their own, the statements are quickly flushed down the memory hole.

Buy lots of ammo. Do it today.

For quite q while now I have stated absent a dramatic incident upon which the gun grabboids can hang the extension of the AWB it will die a natural death. At this point in history any such dramatic incident must be presumed to be manufactured unless and until proven otherwise. It si just plain to close to the expiration of teh ban and this coming to a political head.

Further, as the meaning of the Second Ammendment is now disputed by two seprate circuit courts of appeal this issue is now ripe for the Supreme Court to intervene.

Democrats appear to have abandoned gun control ... but only during the campaign. Don't be fooled or disarmed by their remarks.

After the press briefing, however, Mrs. Pelosi said the Democrats might revisit guns "when the issue is ripe."

They are betting that another Columbince-scale incident will bring the issue back to life for them. Otherwise, they'll squeak and try to make a few cheap points against the GOP and Bush and leave the issue alone.

In the policy debate now, I think that one can see the gun-control victories a few years ago in the wake of Columbine are now meeting with the aftermath of 9/11 which made people once again aware of just how vulnerable they are and just how long it takes the police to arrive.

The older Columbine tragedy has lost politically to the newer 9/11 tragedy in the imaginations of voters. But it could be revived in the event of a major gun-related media-accessible tragedy. This is what Pelosi and her allies are waiting for. In the meantime, they will avoid the issue because they believe it cost them the House in '94 and the presidency in 2000 along with a lot of other races, some of them downstream candidates. The issue is accelerating their decline in the South.

Fortunately, gun control seems to be becoming more and more of a loser issue as time goes by. If you look at that "other" site, there are many liberals who eloquently argue for 2nd Amendment rights, despite being complete leftisits on every other issue. It's very encouraging.

The problem with your stance is that the left is so vehemently charged to take away our rights, that they'll never stop. All it takes is a few moments of weakness and they can ram this legislation through. How do you think they got the Assault Rifle Ban passed? I have much less faith than you do in the eternal vigilance of our population. We will let our guard down. The left will constanly pursue its course of tyranny. And eventually, they will knock on my door for my guns.

The question at that point is, what will you do about it?

Rest assured, it is probably the same thing you are planning to do.

They are betting that another Columbince-scale incident will bring the issue back to life for them.

That's why we have to remain armed at all times to make sure we can stop it. Even the Beltway Snipers caused people to rethink their attitudes on guns.

It's odd to me why the perception changed. The citizens trusted the police while there were crackhouses in their neighborhoods but something that happened across the country affected them. The only thing I can think of is that the dems were in charge when the first terrorists hit and they did nothing. Now people have finally opened their eyes to the lies of the dem party.

Most can't understand that there are people in our world called "handlers" that find, guide and help to promote an agenda. It's real, it happens ......folks can choose to believe or not but having seen such with something as simple as an informant working with a LEO up to an including a Christian In Action working foreign nationals angry with their own forms of goobermint and supplied with tools and ideas.

But that could never happen regarding Socialists ideas for their planned conversion of Amerika..........in America.

Stay Safe, Harpseal !

Giving the Demwits a dose of their own 'J'accuse' seems to be fairplay.

On the serious side, it does seem like they are really hoping and praying for an atrocity. I do consider Nancy Pelosi, Chuckie Schumerde, Diane Schweinstein (or is that Feinschwein), Sarah Brady, Josh Sugarman and Tom Diaz (of the VPC) to all be a bunch of lying bastards.
