The Associated Press

A fetus in its 24th week of development has been aborted by doctors who said the life of the mother - a retarded, deaf and seizure-prone rape victim - would be threatened if the baby was carried to full term, an attorney said Friday. The abortion and tubal ligation to prevent future pregnancies were performed late Thursday at Jackson Memorial Hospital, said Lance Block, who represents the disabled woman's mother. Miami-Dade police took DNA samples from the fetus in an effort to identify the father, whom officials believe raped the 28-year-old woman, he said. The victim is "doing well" despite the tragedy she has been a part of, he said. In a statement released Thursday by Miami-Dade Circuit Court, the judge who oversaw the case, Arthur Rothenberg, said the disabled woman's mother strongly objected to any other solutions. She "did not want her daughter to be subjected to any more of an invasive procedure than was absolutely necessary to terminate the pregnancy and for a tubal ligation," Rothenberg said.

THe State of California has ordered the trial of a father for the murder of his unborn baby. The state of Florida has ordered the death of an unborn baby.

Sad.

"(Could it be that Gramma doesn't want another life on her hands?)"

This "could have been" this grandmothers chance at a "child" without defects. Someone to bring up the way she wanted to with her daughter.

Maybe she's wrought with anger and guilt and knows that it was her fault that her disabled daughter is the way she is.

"Ugly stuff has been going on for millenia, but no sign of any gods."

That's what they all said to Noah, while he was building a ship a long way from the water.

God showed up a little later....and He will again.

"Yes, I'm familiar with your religion's scripture.

Ah, so you were already aware that Paul wrote about you! ;) "

Paul wrote about a lot of things. So does the Weekly World News. He wasn't writing about me. I'm not that old.

Now, you have a nice day.

Ezekiel 25:17:
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
OK, its the Pulp Fiction version, but I think you all get the point.

"That's what they all said to Noah, while he was building a ship a long way from the water."

Well, that's a nice fairy tale. There's no evidence that any such flood took place. None. But, if you believe it, that's fine with me.

Is it OK with you if I don't believe it?

That's certainly possible. Not knowing her situation (money, mental stability, health), I refuse to pass judgment on her for that. Adoption, however, would have been a better option.

I refuse to pass judgment on her

Me to, even if done with sufficient knowledge and malicious intent.

Whatever happened to "except in cases of rape and incest," though?

Not everyone in the pro-choice camp would disagree. What was the name of that Princeton bio-"ethicist" who advocated euthanasia of retarded humans while arguing that it was illegal and immoral to kill animals? If I recall correctly, he also argued in favor of bestiality once.

Peter Singer, I think it was.

Lovely.

Wasn't Florida also the place where they had something like 300 kids "dissapear" out of the system?

Makes my blood run cold.

Your deity seems to be absent. Ugly stuff has been going on for millenia, but no sign of any gods.

Ah yes, the "There is no God because He doesn't come down and clean up every mess we create for ourselves" argument.

I never get tired of that one.

If we are to truly be a moral nation, we must do the following: (i) protect innocent life from conception to natural death, regardless of whether a baby is a product of rape or incest, and (ii) make it easier for loving married couples to adopt unwanted or abused babies and children. Unfortunately, the liberals are opposed to both of these things. But we can't give up.

Okay.

So if this is what we want, HOW do we go about doing it?

I believe in prayer, but I also believe that God expects us to act as His agents, and make the world a better place. Prayer alone will not do it.

Bombing abortion clinics and shooting providers is NOT legitimate in my view. That too, is murder.

To simply throw up our hands and say: " Well the Liberals won't let us!" doesn't cut it.

If this is truly what we want, we need to , each and everyone of us, take PERSONAL responsibility and become "proactive" about these issues.

How do we get this thing we want? What is the solution(s)?

We've got some good discussion and momentum going here. Let's use it.

Well, there are certainly nutcases in every line, it seems. The nutcases do not define the group, however. But, as is clear, nutcases do affect the view others have of a group. In your example, this nutcase makes pro-choicers look bad. In the case of the murderer of an abortion doctor, it makes the pro-lifers look bad.

That's not how it should be, but it's how it is.

Convinced atheists have no reason to taunt those who believe otherwise. Since you continue to do so, I doubt the sincerity of your convictions. (I already disbelieve their veracity.)

And I could say that convinced religionists have no reason to taunt those who do not believe. Yet, they do it all the time.

Whether you doubt my disbelief or not is a matter of no concern to me. It's not my business to convince you of anything, and I have no interest in doing so. I've sure had a lot of folks try to convince me that I must believe as they do, however, or face some horrible punishment.

Sorry, but I'll post as I please, thanks.
