A fetus in its 24th week of development has been aborted by doctors who said the life of the mother - a retarded, deaf and seizure-prone rape victim - would be threatened if the baby was carried to full term, an attorney said Friday. The abortion and tubal ligation to prevent future pregnancies were performed late Thursday at Jackson Memorial Hospital, said Lance Block, who represents the disabled woman's mother. Miami-Dade police took DNA samples from the fetus in an effort to identify the father, whom officials believe raped the 28-year-old woman, he said. The victim is "doing well" despite the tragedy she has been a part of, he said. In a statement released Thursday by Miami-Dade Circuit Court, the judge who oversaw the case, Arthur Rothenberg, said the disabled woman's mother strongly objected to any other solutions. She "did not want her daughter to be subjected to any more of an invasive procedure than was absolutely necessary to terminate the pregnancy and for a tubal ligation," Rothenberg said.

Are you a doctor??? If not I would assume you have no clue what you are talking about. Have you ever been a patient? If so, I would hope you gain a clue as to what is being talked about, concerning your body.
The burden of "making the case" here is not with the one who would save life, but with the one who would take it.
If you find a clear descption from a physician of how this young woman's life was actually endangered by the life of her child, please relate
That would be important news.

She was having brain seizures before the pregnancy and the pregnancy was either increasing them or was threatening to do so. Do you have a source to attribute, for this?

Yes, yes. Christendom has been saying that for a couple of thousand years now. So far, no go. And there have been plenty of nasty things happening that far eclipse abortions. Where is your deity? I wouldn't hold my breath, if I were you. :)
2 Peter 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

If we are to truly be a moral nation, we must do the following: (i) protect innocent life from conception to natural death, regardless of whether a baby is a product of rape or incest, and (ii) make it easier for loving married couples to adopt unwanted or abused babies and children. Unfortunately, the liberals are opposed to both of these things. But we can't give up.

Well I would have to agree with one thing, the Florida Child Welfare system is TOTALLY SCREWED UP!
Rilya Wilson was reported missing in April 2002, when the Department of Children & Families realized its workers had skipped more than a year of required monthly visits to her foster home.
Yesterday Geralyn Graham (the foster parent) got two years for welfare fraud and a year for filing a false affidavit when obtaining a driver's license.
Note that the charges do not reflect the fact that this mutant lost a little child!

Sad, sad, sad.

I wonder if you ever go over to DU and point out the hypocrisy of the leftists.

Yes, I'm familiar with your religion's scripture. Sorry, but as an atheist, I consider that scripture to be no more worthy of belief than any of the other scriptures of any of the other religions.
As I said, I've seen no evidence whatever of the existence of any deities, so I disbelieve in them all. You just believe in one more deity than I do.

You have no need to apologize. Much of the original story has been left out of subsequent stories - all by the AP. It's hard to follow, certainly.

But we can't give up. Amen. I certainly won't. I'm going to help Liberty Counsel however I can. I can do that much - help them continue to speak for voices who can't speak for themselves... yet.

I have read that she has had brain seizures in the past but I cannot find that story now. I think, however, that I'm wrong about reading that the pregnancy might be causing more. I have also not read where any doctors said that her life was in danger (although her mother said doctors told her that earlier).
The fact remains that pregnancy can be very hard on a woman. My wife was perfectly healthy before her second pregnancy and it nearly killed her. I am not arguing either side of this sad case -- I'm just pointing out that if you truly think a pregnancy has no effect on the functioning of the brain, you don't know a whole heck of a lot about it. Do a google search and you'll find plenty of info.

"Are people on the this post really saying a retarded girl with the mental capacity of a four year old SHOULD become a mother?"
Motherhood is not the question. The life IS the question. This child has endless adoption possibilities.
No question she cannot be as good a mother as one who has not her handicap. But society wants to "mother" this child. The lawyers do not.
To: kegler4
Thanks. Life is taxing, but death is utterly confiscatory.
Interesting, how this mother was just effectively given a c-section.
(Could it be that Gramma doesn't want another life on her hands?)

"FWIW I've always thought it was probably the pro-death crowd that was making adoption so difficult. If they can render it nearly impossible for adoption, no demand...no demand...no babies needed...therefore more abortions. IMHO."
I think you're right. Follow the money.
If it can bankrupt a family that adopts in the USA, then they go overseas.
There needs to be simple clear-cut laws on US adoption. Laws that the lawyers can't clean a host family out on.
If the mother opts for adoption over abortion then there should be NO LEGAL RECOURSE after the birth. Lawyers don't like that, no money there.
To: MeeknMing
"Man. This story changes FAST. I thought she was talked OUT of the abortion ??"
Could it be that we were told lies to change our tactics and made to think we won, we celebrated rather than keeping a close watch. Killers are not beyond that!

Yes, I'm familiar with your religion's scripture.Ah, so you were already aware that Paul wrote about you! ;)

I'm so glad God's existence doesn't depend on our belief of Him.
As I said, I've seen no evidence whatever of the existence of any deities, so I disbelieve in them all.
In that case, here's another for ya!
Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.
You just believe in one more deity than I do.
Oh I just can't resist.
Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. Isaiah 46:9-10, 54:5, 66:23.
Have a good afternoon. :)

This is a tragedy and I cannot imagine imposing a pregnancy on a rape victim. But imposing a murder on a rape victim doesn't appear to be a problem for you. Why is that?
