LONDON, May 28, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The UK Life League, a British pro-life group has reported that Jane Russell, the 1940s and '50s Hollywood movie star and pin-up girl, now aged 82, gave an interview this week slamming abortion. "People should never, ever have an abortion. Don't talk to me about it being a woman's right to choose what she does with her own body. The choice is between life and death," said Russell.
Describing her shock at finding herself pregnant at 18: "The only solution was to find a quack and get an abortion. I had a botched abortion and it was terrible. Afterwards my own doctor said: 'What butcher did this to you?' I had to be taken to hospital. I was so ill I nearly died. I've never known pain like it." Russell says that due to the abortion she was not able to have any other children.

My son is now going on 15 and heading for those same temptations and now I struggle whether to tell him or not. No, no, no -- please. You will only be putting a burden on your son. He has no right to that information. That is private & personal information between you and your husband. Your son would never look at you in the same way. Please don't tell him. Keep it as your own personal burden.

Your story is heartbreaking. At least you have a soul to grieve. We can see that, and we understand your sorrow.
But someone like Hildy, who says that she hasn't ever felt one day's remorse -- that seems cold and heartless to us, and totally incomprehensible. That's why there's such animosity on this thread -- we are just truly shocked that someone can be remorseless and ungrieving and without regret -- such a person seems to be devoid of humanity.

It's also in bad form to have posts removed because you disagree with the context. That hasn't stopped her. She removed one of mine for providing facts that she was being less than truthful about another FReeper. Couldn't have the truth out there.

You are very very right. It does haunt, and as MHG stated on another post, it's a crushing realization.
Here are some relevant posts backing up what many posters on this thread have stated: that YES, MOST women DO regret having abortions. Some don't, true. But MOST do. And no, the argument that "I didn't regret it or I wouldn't have done it" simply doesn't wash. You cannot regret something not yet done.

Is God Punishing Me for My Abortion?
(Excellent quote from this one here:)
A woman is created to be a nurturer and a caregiver. When she aborts a child, regardless of the circumstances, she is acting in a way that violates her nature as a woman. Rationalizing her actions does nothing to change that fact. It is only a band-aid placed over a gaping wound.

I also think this thread offers interesting insight into the pro-death cult, even though it's SARCASM. Personally, I think it speaks volumes about some of the posters on this thread.
Abortion is wonderful. Abortion is the answer.
Abortion is the greatest act of selfishness? So What? SOMETHING has to be the greatest act of selfishness.

want to try and make a life together. Nope - been there, done that. You can only put your hand in the dispose-all so many times before you begin to realize that no matter what you do, it's going to hurt like hell when you do it.

I soon understood what I had really and truly done That brought tears to my eyes. I would love to give you a great big hug right now. That must have been devastating.
I have always wanted children and could never have brought myself to have an abortion no matter what situation I had been in. I would have at least opted to give any child I conceived and couldn't raise up for adoption, even if it tore my heart out.
And THAT is why I didn't enage in casual sex. Because even though abortion was legal and could be gotten anonymously, I knew *I* could never do it and that to give a baby up would be almost as devastating. And because I knew I wanted - no, *needed* -- true love and emotional security, not just sex. And there was no one around who could give that to me until I met Cyrano at age 20.
I sure love Ezekiel 16... the worthless child rescued and nurtured and loved still turns from her savior God and sacrifices her children to her idols. (The idol of Convenience nowadays, although in the past it was an actual stone or wooden image). The true picture of love, and the truth about how we often repay it.

What's your "experience"?
What means "most"?
Beside the documentation that I've seen which validates the mental impact of abortion, I'll cite 2 personal references.
1970's
2 women, each athiest/agnostic friends, pregnant by other men, came to me for pre/post abortion support.
Both very upset and remorseful about the abortion and acknowledging they'd killed their baby.
One women couldn't travel in that part of the adjacent town without reliving the horrific sound of the suction machine and the image that created for her.
They have both thanked me for my non-critcal support at the time.

I appreciate the ping to this. The article and following thread has been interesting reading.

However, I sure am lucky that so many of the pure ones here on Free Republic are praying for me! First I must address you saying "MANY DO NOT REGRET THAT DECISION". You are wrong.
Secondly, your statement above is correct.
Thirdly, I may have kept my son, but how do you know I didn't have an abortion later in life? From all the people who've had an abortion who I spoke with,.. ONLY ONE did not regret it.
You are the first person I've seen online BRAG about the coldhearted feelings you have about murdering an innocent helpless human being who could NOT DEFEND themself. YOUR mistakes were not the childs mistakes. YOUR moment of PLEASURE was the cause for the death of an innocent helpless baby.
I hope it was worth it Hildy. Because this life is but the blink of the eye compared to eternity.
NUFF SAID....
To: Hildy
Hildy.. not only do you talk "without emotion" about how you feel no guilt in the killing of your baby.. but then you make fun of how "shaggy eel" spells "comdoditise".
FYI,, people from other countries spell phonetically.
How shallow can you get?
To: Vets_Husband_and_Wife
I am not wrong about many not regretting the decision. Wishing so, doesn't make it so.

(((((grannyheart))))))) I just wanted you to know that it is VERY apparent that you are grief stricken. I also want you to know that God forgives you. If you asked Him to, He did it. Because He said He forgives when asked with a sincere heart. I pray you will feel the FREEDOM of His forgiveness. He does NOT want you to suffer. That is the beauty of "Divine Forgiveness". If we say we believe in God.. then we must BELIEVE in His words about forgiveness.
God Bless you and I wish I could wipe away your tears. Thank you for sharing your very personal experience. I think people coming forward like you just did, SAVES BABIES LIVES EVERY DAY!!! I pray that knowledge brings you comfort.
To: Hildy
It isn't MY soul Hildy. You can choose the very short life here on earth to justify anything and everything you did that made you feel good or was convienent for you.. but I believe there is a place we go after this..and it makes this life look VERY VERY short. In fact, there is no comparison time wise.
You can feel any way you want. Thus, "Free Will". I guess if you are willing to pay the price.. then it becomes a matter between you and God. Which is why I said I will pray for you.
To: Vets_Husband_and_Wife
I NEVER JUSTIFIED IT. Show me where I justified it.

You KEEP justifying it. If you have NO GUILT, NO REMORSE for killing your baby.. then YOU ARE JUSTIFYING IT.
