New Poll: Kerry Would Lose To Bush Last Poll Showed Senator With Commanding Lead
POSTED: 6:48 a.m. EDT May 21, 2003
BOSTON -- The presidential campaign of Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry received some startling news Wednesday from his own back yard.
A poll recently conducted by the research institute Mass Insight shows Kerry trailing President Bush in the race for president in the Bay State.
The poll, which involved 500 Massachusetts voters at the end of April, shows the president with a 6 percentage point lead -- the exact numbers have not been released.
This stands in stark contrast to a similar poll taken by the group in January. Back then, Kerry had a commanding 16 point lead in Massachusetts in a theoretical matchup with the president.

This story has one important significance -- it says that the voters who know him best -- who know more about him than the limited, cropped and staged image of Kerry being sold to the Dems and press nationally -- well, those Massachusetts voters aren't so fond of him.
Whereas a more "genuine" candidate would normally be expected to get a 'favorite son' bounce from his home state, and from border state New Hampshire as well.
This does NOT bode well for Kerry.
The 'war hero' crap doesn't fly with the Massachusetts voters, because they know differently, and I'm sure they were also surprised that Kerry neglected to remember that he wasn't Irish, after all these years when he let the perception lay that he was Irish.
Not that they ever needed him to be Irish, but they did require him to be truthful about who he was.
And his campaign has put the spotlight on the reality that he's a "male whore", a gold-digger.
AT this point he should consider himself lucky that he's not up for re-election to the senate.

Bottom line is another Massachsetts liberal is going to be a no-sale in most of the country. If his poll numbers in the northeast go further south, he could end up being the first presidential candidate to win no states in the Electoral College. Even Fritz Mondale was able (just barely) to win his home state of Minnesota in 1984, and McGovern carried Massechussetts in 1972. What's really needed is Republican pickups in the House, but especially the Senate to go along with an historic Electoral College route.

He reminds me of that Senator in the movie "The Last Boy Scout."You do know all evil Senators are from the south or Texas (ie. Republican) in movies, don't you?

If his poll numbers in the northeast go further south They will, especially ff the Dims keep trying to make Bush's handling of the war on terror their big issue.

Remember that Ronald Reagan won Massachusetts in both 1980 and 1984. Massachusetts will elect a Republican if there is a Republican candidate to be excited about. Hell, we've been electing Republican governors here since 1990. Republican Mitt Romney was elected governor by a wide margin here last November. No reason why Bush can't take this state in 2004.

"If Dizzy Dean gets the nomination I'm thinking a 49 state
sweep, with him taking Vermont and D.C."
The last time Howie ran for governor of Vermont he barely
got 50% of the vote.Vermont is not a shoo in for him.
To: DarthVader
Wow. What a loser. Dukaksis carried MA by almost 10 points when they nominated him against the elder Bush. Heck, McGOVERN won Massacuttes, when he wasn't even from there and was getting crushed in the other 49 states.
Lurch has spent his whole life running in a overwhemingly Democrat state and pretending he had a real election challenge-- now it seems for the first time he's getting a taste of what that's like. And he's clueless.
I really wouldn't mind the Dems nominating Lurch the Heinz Ketchup Man right about now. ;-)

Yes he was pandering to the protesters at the time and still is.
He did not throw his medals away though, he threw away the ribbons they are attached too (in symbolism). some savvy reporter from a business mag unearthed this fact and kerry admitted to it. can't remember where or when (was recently though), but heard it on an am talk show late night, one of the mikes, either savage or reagan.
he still has the medals today.
he was a phony then and is a phony now.

Actually not a stretch, because of his Jewish grandfather.

Part of the reason his numbers are dropping, is that he's been pandering to groups outside of the state, and is starting to be percieved as somone who is not doing anything for the state. His playing with his ethnic background definalty ticked off more then a few people, as it came across as being ashamed of his natural heritage and trying to pander to the other groups heritage. There is also alot of support for Dean, and Dean and Kerry have been sniping at each other as of late which is adding to the negativity of Kerry.
