If any of you are giving a dime to the United Way, please, move on over to DUh, where you belong.

I haven't contributed to the United Way or its predecessor for over forty years. I advise the same to everyone. I saw abuses in collection tactics, outright lying by the organization and their representatives and a complete disregard for the wishes of contributors. There are organizations which do not exist only to feed the egos and pocket books of "Civic Leaders" and fund administrators. Contribute to those which put money where you feel it needs to go.

Incredibly, at a time when critics are attacking Roman Catholic dioceses in the U.S. for allowing gay priests to have access to teenage boys, thus exposing them to the strong possibility of molestation, others are demanding that gay scout leaders be allowed the same kind of risky access to teenage boy scouts.

As an aside, has anyone noticed that when a priest is attacked for being a pedophile, the fact that he's a homosexual (at least in most cases) is never brought up. It's always "pedophile priests". And it's true, with all the trouble the church is having, you'd think the LAST thing anyone would advocate is for homosexual scout leaders.

I quit giving to the United Way around 10 years ago when it came out that their CEO made about a half million dollars a year in salary. I would never contribute to any charitable organization who had an employee making that kind of money.

But Luis Gonzalez claims that by allowing them their perversions, it all stays behind hallowed closed doors, rather than polluting the culture and robbing children of their innocence or fundings for wholesome activities!

I don't get the problem with the United Way forcing the Boy Scouts to have openly gay scoutmasters leading scores of impressionable young boys into the woods for camping.

After all, this policy worked so well for the Catholic Church.

/Sarcasm

Will the united Way be liable should they get their way and a pedophile scoutmaster commit sex crimes?

What will their legal liabilities and obligations be, should that become the situation?

Could local UW board members be prosecuted as accomplices or sued by destraught families?

How come they're not crusading for my "right" to work as a shower-room monitor at a girl's college?

I quit giving to the UW in the 80s after I sat down and read the list of things they fund. Made me unpopular in the Navy, because my unit could never get "100% participation."

You know, that business of United Way milking the military every year, with superior officers pushing subordinates to contribute for the sake of the unit's reputation, really ought to be an issue.

I stopped giving entirely to United Way when this came up a few years back. I didn't care my local UW's position. I knew that some of my cash would go to national level, and that these ideas would be killed if national would ban them. Which they didn't.

I will never support the United Way again. Instead I send direct contributions to my local Boy Scouts chapter!

Companies should inform United Way they will not give if UW insists on getting involved in such social engineering practices.

Companies should inform the United Way that companies don't do fund raisers and the United Way should use direct mail like everyone else.

Individuals should inform the United Way that they are more than able to give their money to the organizations they support without a middleman who may give money to organizations they don't support.

Why do we even have a United Way (except to line the pockets of the UW executives)?

Shalom.

Mike is being much too kind to the United Way and the mindset it has embraced. There is no rational argument for their position--none. (See The Boyscouts Of America & A Leftwing Agenda.)

If the business types, who usually serve on these United Way boards, have so little understanding of the dyanmics of human life, that they can take this sort of a stand, with a straight face, one would have to question their more generalized business judgment, also. Perhaps if local Conservatives, in any community afflicted with this sort of nonsense, would circulate lists of the United Way Board, and the company that each is connected with, there would be a decrease in this sort of blackmail.

Now comes the Miami-Dade United Way (UW) chapter which says it will no longer give nearly a half-million dollars a year to the local chapter of the BSA after June, because the scouts won’t provide some asinine be-nice-to-gays-they’re-normal-just-like-us "sensitivity" training program for its leaders.

They're just cutting their own throats. Those who were inclined to give to the UW in order to make the donation to the Scouts will just give DIRECTLY to the Scouts now. Others who might have given to the UW may refuse to out of disgust for their spinelessness! I'd be curious to see how fundraising has gone this year for the UWs that have decided to drop the Scouts.
