A few times in my 12 years writing this column, I've stumbled on a topic so unsettling to readers that it demanded a follow-up. Last month was one of those times, when my story on the problems of dual-income, no-sex marriages drew a torrent of e-mail that read as if I'd jabbed an open wound.

That's what I mean. Sex is great. But why build a life around it? I have sex and enjoy sex. I have been married and faithful to my wife since I was sixteen years old. We have been married 32 years. We have four kids. Sex must have played a part. But she is 50 now and I am going to be 49 next month. We love each other. We don't have to have sex to show it. It is a treat! Our respect and love transcends the need for genital contact. If I never had sex again, I could be satisfied. I love my wife and will never stop. She is my wife. Forever and ever. I agree that mariage is based on sex. That's what founds it. The delicious part is the maturity that is found in the years that follows. A man and a woman bonded so that they never want to be apart. A pair that share children. They share grandchildren. If sex guides your life, you are an idiot. You have lost out on the other 99.99% aspects that make it special. After all, you can do that by yourself. Loser.

Maybe the woman eats because you are too busy admiring your pecs in the mirror and are neglecting her emotionally. Blame the guy...how typically female.

No need to get so uppity. and all of the women who put there kids in the nursery up at the gym? They are all pre disposed to holding on to weight? No they realize the importance of being physically fit. She was in great shape, and now she is not in great shape. And my attitude towards her is not harsh , I couldnt tell her this in a million years, because It would certainly hurt her feelings. Here in an anonymous forum I can speak my mind to somewhat like minded individuals. I do not admire my pecs in the mirror, I liek the feeling of being in good shape and taking the best possible care that I can of the body and life that god has given me. I have been in a similar thread like this in the past and got ganged up on by all of the overweight chicks. Figures.

"Women adored Ben Franklin and Ben Franklin adored women. When word got out in Paris that Franklin had a weakness for pretty ladies, everywhere he went, mademoiselles presented themselves to have their neck kissed by the noble savage. They were charmed by his witty sense of humor and his pensive manner. It was said that Franklin with "equal ease could... charm alike the lightning and the ladies."

It is nothing more than a big fat LIE! She sees through you. You should help with the work around the house and with the kids because it is your house and kids also.
If you only help to "buy her love", she feels like something she doesn't want to be.
You help beause it is your responsibility, your job.
You take your wife out on dates and woo her because you love her.
When you try to connect the two it turns her off.
I know, we have raised 7 kids and I helped a lot. I changed hundreds of diapers, I have gotten up in the night with one of the kids a lot. Kids were not just her responsibility.
We also have a good relationship as friends and have had a very good sex life. (7 kids, don't forget.)
They are all adults now, and we still enjoy each other.

Your attitude towards your wife is extremely harsh Its not his attitude, its his opinion, and hes perfectly right in thinking that child rearing is an easy out so long as he is doing his part by making sure his wife has time to exercise.
As for using genetics as an argument, it is another excuse. If your son or daughter was not the brightest kid in class would you tell them its ok not to try? No you tell them to try and hope that when they are older they will realize they just have to try harder than most.

I'd say the smartest women DO have children. There is a inverse relationship between a woman's intelligence and how many children she will probably have. There're many fortunate exceptions but it's true in general. The evolutionary effect is brainy women are becoming more rare as a percentage of the population. Thanks to the invention of the pill and feminists selling the idea that women can have it all, female intelligence in general is a self-limiting trait. The good news is there's a growing supply and demand imbalance. Brainy women in the future will be in very high demand.
