Stop the presses! My resignation from The New York Times
Slate.com via MSNBC.com ^ | May 13, 2003 | Neal Pollack

Posted on 05/14/2003 7:57:25 PM PDT by Pan_Yans Wife

Following is an account of approximately one-tenth of the articles in which falsification, plagiarism, defamation of character, improper grammar, jingoistic sucking up to Donald Rumsfeld, mishandling of basic geographical facts, bad spelling, and just plain ignorance were discovered in a review of articles written by Neal Pollack, who resigned yesterday as a reporter for The New York Times...

Y'know, I'm beginning to get the impression that this paper should check credentials before hiring anyone.

Yeah, but how telling that the New York Time's credibility is so low right now that it takes a while to TELL it's satire!

You made me laugh. The whole situation at the Times is like a nightmare. However, it is enjoyable. Just wait until Blair writes a book saying he planned it all along, to bring down the Grey Lady. Ha! (Must attribute this idea to Rush Limbaugh... he said it first.)

It's not really very funny, but it's excellent news. The liberal media are not letting this story drop. I think they feel a bit of their own kind of Schadenfreude. Here this guy is plugging away like a good little liberal at Slate, which is liable to go belly up any day, while the prestigious New York Times is hiring idiots.

This will severely damage the Times's ability to set trends and authorize other liberal media to pursue particular stories.

Slate can go bugger off for all the good they've ever done humanity.

If Slate has no problem with the quality of the NYT work product, then why should we ever believe Slate?

I am beginning to think that Slate should check the release papers of writers, before believing that they are satirists.

What is amazing to me is that when you read a variety of the nation's papers, they all say the same thing. They check with the paper of record first, and then write a similar story. Imagine, reporters actually having to hunt down stories!

One of the reasons why I think FR is popular, is because there is a wider variety of articles to read, since we all sift through them and post the ones that we find pertinent.

Agreed. I do think most national AP wire stories go through Times editors before being distributed on the news budgets to local papers. Thank goodness for the Internet which allows you to cultivate a broad selection of sources -- and FR especially

MSNBC should leave parody to the guy who knows how to do it well on ScrappleFace.com.

It's not really very funny,

Neal Pollack never is. He's a "Generation X cultural satirist;" beloved by 30-year-old liberals who think he's hip and cool because he's so "underground." Absolutely pathetic.

This article will NOT be added to the NYT Schadenfreude ping list.
