ANOTHER Pro2A Org. Bites the Dust! Hear how we can stop this from happening again Th. Eve, May 15

With the recent demise of Citizens of America - one of the most honest, sincere and flat-out smart approaches to making the general public aware of just how important our Second Amendment Rights are to EVERY citizen - it is time for us to reconsider what approaches we are using to change the tide of anti-gun, anti-freedom fervor, and ask ourselves (since we're certainly all working "hard" enough) are we working "smart" enough?

Please Join Us this Thursday Evening at:

What is "ATF Night"? No, we're not the federal gun control agency. We are a social gathering of Second Amendment and liberty activists and leaders who meet monthly to discuss firearms-related issues over (optional) adult beverages and dinner, and afterwards, those so inclined may choose to step outside to continue discussions while enjoying a fine cigar - hence the name.

Originally hosted by The Lawyers' Second Amendment Society, the meetings have continued thanks to the leadership assumed by John Brantuk, Republican Nominee for the California State Assembly (see www.BrantukForAssembly.org)

You don't have to be an activist to join us - newcomers and the curious are always welcome.
And admission is always free.

I hope they fill us in on what happens. I'm not going to California any time soon but I'm still interested.

I belong to 3 Pro2 orgs and pay the standard yearly fees, with maybe a 100 bucks extra at the end of the year or when Feinstien intros a new bill (just happened).

But gosh I cringe every time I renew or pay extra because it seems like it just invites a flood of junk mail. I have quit the NRA twice because of it - I have a PO Box and they alone would fill it in a week. Had to sign back up just cause my gun club requires it.

I got royally p!ssed at NRA when they started dunning me for a video tape they claimed they sent me. I sent them a letter stating that if they wanted to keep me as a member they would cease & desist with ALL the junk mail, including the dun notices. to my surprise, they conformed. My brother (also a member) is still getting all the crap, but my PO box is clean!

In my mailbox at home I once received a "notice of attempt to deliver certified mail". I had to drive to the post office to see what it was and sign for it. It turned out to be a piece of fund-raising junk mail from the NRA. Since then, I have been redirecting my donations to other groups (GOA, California Rifle and Pistol Association).

My dad complained about all the junk mail he received from the NRA, and warned my nephews about the constant junk mailings when they were going to join. Nobody else in the family complained about it, but my dad was especially irritated by it.

My dad hated junk mail the way he hated telemarketers. The only difference between the two, he said, is that you can't hang up on junk mail.

One day notice is not enough for me, but I would like to go, say, next month. Could a schedule of meetings be posted?

And also, not to mention too, it is the decision of the individual as to whether or not they are irritated by NRA junk mail. This whining is pathetic. Just open it, recognize it, and if you want to give, give. If you don't, toss it. It's better junk mail than is piled on my door every day about where to buy a pizza, get a tree trimmed or house remodeled. Support the NRA.

The title is part of the problem. The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is simply not media savvy.

If you declare "ATF Night" and then declare in parenthesis (A Pro 2nd Amendment Social Gathering) you are already playing catch-up.

Sounds like some more brainstorming is in order.

Best regards,

We always meet at the same place and same time on the 3rd Thursday of every month.

Unfortunately, if we post on FreeRepublic any earlier than a day or two before the event, the thread gets bumped down so low that it gets "lost" and no one sees it.

If you'd like to receive an email reminder about a week or so before the next event, email me at John.W.Brantuk@BrantukForAssembly.org and I'll add you to my regular email distribution list.

Hope you have a great day!

Thanks for the thought.

We have addressed this issue a couple of times over the past few years.

The consensus of the group continues to be that we retain the name "ATF Night" . . .

1. as an homage to the Lawyers' Second Amendment Society (who originally founded the group),

2. to show that we are a fun-loving bunch of people with a sense of humor (Adult Beverages, Cigars, Discussion of Firearms and Second Amendment issues - hence the tongue-in-cheek "ATF Night"),

and 3. that it should be obvious to the informed that "ATF" is not the same as "BATF".
