You probably have another sort of spyware/ad-bot running in the background - get AdAware, or Spybot - Search & Destroy - both can be easily found on a google search.

Download and run ad-aware. Sounds like you got some kind of adware on your computer -- maybe the kids installed Kazaa or something?
Adaware can be downloaded here.

Sounds like spyware. Use Spybot Search and Destroy -- it works great and it is free.

Ditto on AdAware. I thought I had a pretty clean system and installed the thing, and it found no fewer than FIVE little cookies.
To: ru4liberty
What type of pop-up ad is it?
It sounds as if some webpage has placed a cookie on your computer. Try cleaning out your cookies folder.

I have the same aggravating problem. Every time I open my home page an extra browser opens with ads. I found the file folder...windows/system/adcache. However, whenever I delete it it immediately reappears in the same location. I heard someone saying it was an activex issue but I can't find the solution.

Run AdAware and SpyBot Search & Destroy. Otherwise it's virtually impossible to get that junk out of your Registry.
SpyBot will direct you to a related program, if you hit the Innoculate button, called SpyWare Blaster. After removing the junk, it's a good idea to innoculate, regularly update, and use SpyWare Blaster to keep more Spyware from installing itself without your knowledge.

Switch your browser to Opera v7. It has a built in pop-up stopper.

It used to be on FR that articles posted carried the entire content ... now, after a tease intro sentence or paragraph we get the "for the rest of the article" press the button option. This is where I experience the highest incidence of "drop downs" ... annoying, of course, but not nearly as annoying as the wait to log on to the new site.

Yes I am getting ALOT of pop-ups just for doing nothing online but coming here. If I look down I see MANY that appear out of no where and say SAVE. I click on them to exit out each one I am sick of it.

Bumping for MORE info. I am MOST SICK of this mess.
What I'd like to know is when did everyone else start getting these? Mine started Saturday night. I was fine all day, then was hit that night. So much so, that I can't even use that computer. They came in so fast and furious you couldn't read a page here on FR.
I had ONLY FR open.
Yes, I clean the cache, the whole enchilada, after EACH SESSION online. Faithfully. I'm running Win. 98.
I REALLY REALLY resent this. My grandson can't even use the net now due to the nature of these things.
