Someone in the state capitol is sweating bullets.
This week a briefcase containing congressional redistricting maps was stolen from a committee room in the state capitol. The briefcase belongs to a staffer who works for a GOP house member.
Like the brainless thieves you see on amusing television specials, this burglar was apparently unaware that video cameras were recording his every move. The tape is now in the hands of the Texas Department of Public Safety for investigation. It is only a matter of time before the criminal is identified.
But this story is about much more than just a bungling burglar.
Somehow the stolen maps got into the hands of Congressman Martin Frost, D-Arlington, who immediately started waving them around to newspaper reporters. When asked how he obtained the pilfered goods, Frost was vague, saying only "there are no secrets in Austin."
Did Frost know that he was in possession of stolen property? His intentionally dodgy response seems to indicate that he did.
What would scare the Democrats so much that they would stoop to thievery? The common thread in virtually all of the Republican congressional redistricting proposals (and there are several different maps that were stolen) is that they change the districts to reflect Texas that means more Republican seats, more Hispanic seats, more African American seats, and fewer Democrat seats. As the saying goes, desperate times call for desperate measures.
But sometimes desperate measures lead to more desperate times. Now the Democrats have to worry about the long arm of the law in addition to the GOP redistricting plans.
And that raises the obvious question: Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do?
... "there are no secrets in Austin" ...Not when we steal them.
Do they have to be scared? I thought it was just their nature, much like lying.
Just like Saddam Hussein. Elitists are the same, the world over.
In truth, the law does not apply to a Demoncat politician. When was the last time a liberal Demoncat (Trafficant only got in trouble when he went against the Demoncat liberal machine) found himself in trouble? The Demoncat party routinely involves itself in voter fraud (Sanchez vs. Dornan), foreign campaign crimes (Clinton/Gore '92, '96 chinese money laundering), tax evasion (Teamster and Teacher union violations of 501 in the IRS code), and sweet heart deals that make Teapot Dome look like a faux pas (Elk Hills/Occidental/Gore.
Martin Frost is a darling of the marxist community and represents the unionized GM factory rats in Arlington TX. He could be caught red handed in Iraq firing SCUD missles with WMDs on Israel and our troops, and the probable consequence of such thing would be a better chance of being elected to the White House in '04.
One does not negotiate or reason with such evil. One must only destroy such a clear and present danger.

Reminds me of the line from the "Heavy Metal" movie: "Hanging's too good for him! Burning's too good for him! He should be torn up into little itsy bitsy pieces and then buried alive!"
If he did, he is guilty of knowingly receiving stolen property. In Texas, that's a crime:

If a monetary value cannot be assigned to the theft, it's considered to be $500-$1500, which makes the offense a Class A misdemeanor. If the information is considered a "trade secret" (it does appear to meet the definition), it's a third-degree felony.
