Surprise Surprise
A survey of political diversity at Ithaca College in New York found that of 125 professors who registered to vote at the college 93.6 percent did so as Democrats or Greens, reports the Ithacan.
According to the study, sponsored by student Republicans and the local Republican party, only eight of the 125 professors on campus who registered with a political affiliation in the county describe themselves as Republican or Conservatives.
Asma Barlas, an associate professor of politics, says she is a firm believer in diversity, but not the sort of diversity the Republicans have in mind.
I do believe Ithaca College can do a better job of diversifying its faculty, most of whom are white males, she said. Not having a Republican on our faculty is not the only yardstick by which we can measure diversity.

The comment by the Ithaca College professor is priceless!

Who many registered Democrats are there in the population around Ithaca? I doubt its anywhere close to the 94% recorded on the faculty campus.

Sounds to me that Ithica discriminates based on political pursuasion. I think a massive class action lawsuit is in order. Just think of something...anything. This one's ripe for the picking...
Yes, a lawsuit. For real. The only thing these creeps understand is financial sanctions.

Dr. Asmas Barlas wants a pluralism of color, not a pluralism of ideas. As long as they are anything but dead white males, its ok if they are Democrats and liberals.

Looks like the stealth-commies have almost completely taken over that campus!

Its just not in Ithaca. You will find similar Stalinist imbalances in the political representation ratio of every higher education faculty across the country.

When will we ever learn that TRUE diversity is marked by racial and gender quotas? Everyone knows that all minorities think alike, and that men and women's relative contributions to the educational process are predictable based upon gender. On the other hand, diversity based upon articulated differences in philosophy and values is worthless to political and educational discussion. Why do we conservatives think we understand diversity better than the liberals, who obviously have diversity as their primary goal in life? /sarcasm off.

How many registered Democrats are there in the population around Ithaca? I doubt its anywhere close to the 94% recorded on the faculty campus. Ithaca College is located in Tompkins County. Although there is a Democrat registration plurality, it is not overwhelming. 2/3 county-wide elected officials are Republicans, and Governor Pataki carried Tompkins County in each of his races.

By the way, the professor who is quoted, Asma Barlas, is a native of Pakistan. She is the Chair of the Politics Department (in which there is not a single Republican), and is a far-leftist.
So far left, that, like Lenora Fulani, she has come full circle and joined Pat Buchanan in imagining that a Jewish cabal is running the US government. Have a look at this column she recently wrote:

The Ithaca College student-run television station ran a segment on the study last night.
The Chairwoman of the Ithaca College Republicans appeared, and stated that one anti-war professor told her students that it was a "waste of time" for any students who supported Pres. Bush's Iraq policy to remain in the class!

A plurality of Democrats, huh? If only we could enforce political diversity on Ithaca College by shedding half of its Lefties, it would be much closer to how the folks in Tompkins County actually voted.

"Sounds to me that Ithica discriminates based on political pursuasion"
I didn't see anywhere that Ithaca College asks applicants their political registration when applying for a position. Wouldn't the individuals party affiliation need to be known to the school to discriminate based on it.
This is at least the third discussion of this topic - how many registered Democrats/liberals are employed by Bechtel Corp. - do they discriminate? I personally don't think it appropriate to hire/not hire based on political persuasion.
