Tim Robbins - Beyond The Pale at National Press Club Today - Hollywood-Hero Responds
www.hollywood-hero.us ^ | 04-15-03 | www.hollwyood-hero.us

04-15-03- I was going to write an Op-ed today to go with our weekly Hall of Fame and Hall of Shame awards.

Then Tim Robbins spoke to the National Press Club today.  I've recorded it for your listening disgust.  To say it's beyond the pale is an understatement.

He has declared war on the 77% of the people in this country who support our president, this country and our troops.

Here is the audio

Hollywood-Hero needs to say, one more time for the record, free speech does not mean free of consequences.

Freedom to choose what we watch, rent or buy does not equal a blacklist.  It's called capitalism.

Actors are free to speak their mind, oppose the war, malign our president.

We, who disagree with their blanket dismissal of what most of America believes, are free to dissent.

We are free to decide NOT to watch a film, buy a CD, or rent a video.

That's where our power is and that's what they are really afraid of.  The buying power of the American public, the ones who allow them the lifestyles they enjoy.

There is no Hollywood Blacklist as they infer by bringing back this new form of McCarthyism in the guise of a Republican Administration.

This isn't even a boycott, it's about our country, our freedom to choose who we give our largess to in the form of our buying choices.

If Hollywood can't take the heat of their own convictions, perhaps they should find another line of work that would better suit them.

Totally off topic.. but did you know that only about 1,000 people contribute to keep Free Republic up and running? That is out of over 100,000 registered users on this site.

So with only about $2,600 dollars to go to meet this quarter's goal, I am going to post the following and hope that those who might read this thread will send a couple bucks FR's way.

I should clarify: in what part of the speech does he do that?

He has every right to speak, he has NO right to my entertainment dollar!

You grasp the beauty of the First Amendment while Robbins miscontrues it.

In America he has the right to make an ass of himself with his carping Commie crap.

And we have the right not to pay to see him on the silver screen;

and to call him out publicly for his smarmy subversion;

and support Dale Petrovsky and the Baseball Hall of Fame in TLBSHOW's link above.

e-mailed my support to the Hall. Cited the letter from Bill Huber to the New York Times dated April 13:

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have used their celebrity to protest against the administration and the war at every opportunity. In doing so, they became, by choice, symbols.

Honoring them is as much a political statement as disinviting them.

Freedom of speech is not consequence-free. It allows people — and organizations — to answer back.

"disgusting spectacle"

Disgusting it is!

Thanks for the link lisaann8. Robbins sickens me, even more after viewing and listening to this link. I sent a letter of support to the Hall Of Fame over the weekend.

Tim hasn't *begun* to see heat yet. Perhaps he should be nominated for some rally signage? (assuming someone wittier than I could come up with something pithy).

Maybe Tim should start practicing his next line:
"You want fries with that?"

I think the money is better spend going to a baseball game than it is seeing a Tim Robbins/Sarandon movie.

I called this earlier, although not the speed with which everything has gone. Elections are gearing up. These people (liberals & celiberals, the whole lot) are out of power & out of favor with Washington; they will stop at nothing to get power back. They are looking at horrible poll numbers today. CNN, their major news outet, is taking huge PR damage. Turner has got to be on SERIOUS meds. So they are proceeding to lash out at: Conservatives at Fox News, conservatives on talk radio, and -- conservatives on the Inernet, make no mistake about it.

We hold firm on all three. This is going to get uglier. ;-)

Inneresting. I thought Bill O'Reilly reported that Jinane Garofolo had a degree in History. I wonder who's mistaken?

The arrogance of these people stuns me. Tim Robbins (I don't even know who he his and only vaguely know Ms. Sarandon) feel they can say ANYTHING and EVERYTHING they feel like, but when patriotic Americans respond they are offended. In this household we love President Bush and love America. You trash America and I can guarantee both of you that we will never pay to watch you perform and if you should appear on TV, we simply switch the channel. And this goes for all the other anti-American "performers". Never in this American home!

I just happened by C-Span and there he was. Isn't it nice that citizens like Robbins can broadcast their views from the National Press Club, then harrange anyone who opposes them as unfair. Is it fair that I can't express my opposing views from the National Press Club Tim?

Tim Robbins is Jane Fonda II. He cries of the unfair treatment he and anti-war protesters have received. They are peaceful and the rest of us are mean, violent and the true haters. Tell you what Tim, I'd advise you to go counter protest the Peace Rioters in Los Angeles. You'll find out right away who the real haters are.
