[history]
When cosmologists unveiled the findings of the WMAP [Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe] satellite two months ago, it sounded like the instrument, orbiting 2.4 million miles above Earth, had not only accomplished its tasks -- answering timeless questions like how old the universe is and how galaxies are born -- but had gone considerably further. The Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe, it seemed, had taken the eternal enigma of genesis and sucked all the mystery out of it.

Cosmology ping.
[This ping list is for the evolution -- not creationism -- side of evolution threads, and sometimes for other science topics. To be added (or dropped), let me know via freepmail.]

I have been intensely studing the Cosmos. I get up to about 75 stars then I lose count or it gets light or I need to go on a beer run.

That explains it.

since Einstein, space and time have been viewed as a single entity Yes, this has become obvious lately. Einstein, space, time, and photons are one and the same phenomenon. Add gravity, too, although Einstein was merely using that as a parable for his simple minions.

A new proposal that the universe is eternal, that its supposed genesis in a Big Bang was the beginning of just another in an infinitude of cycles of expansion and contraction alternating for time without end. This cyclic theory...Deja vu explained?

The Ultimate Unified Theory of Everything consists of: Photons, Croutons, Neurons, Futons, Carrions, Gravitons, Crayons, and Morons.
If we don't put cosmology behind us, we'll never move on to the next phase.

Anisotropic bttt

Get the hell out of here with that anisotropic nonsense. What are you, some sort of trouble maker.
I've done and hit the Anisotropic abuse button.

Special Prosecutor: Tell me, Miss Jones, during this horrible incident, did you notice whether the President's, ah ...
member had any distinguishing characteristics?
Paula Jones: Yes, now that you mention it. The thing was anisotropic.

Get the hell out of here with that anisotropic nonsense. What are you, some sort of trouble maker. Ahhh, there's nothing quite like the thrill of talking dirty on a science thread....
;-)
To: longshadow
These threads always take a turn for the worse when you anisotropicalists show up. It just gets mean.

These threads always take a turn for the worse when you anisotropicalists show up. It just gets mean. Yeah, yeah.....
Anti-anisotropy = Egalitarian Isotropical nonsense!!!!
Death to the anti-anisotropical Infidels! Long live Anisotropy!!
To: longshadow
As you well know, the origin of anisotropy and its localization are enigmatic.
Why are my ears bleeding?
To: Bluntpoint
Why are my ears bleeding? You have listened to too many anti-anisotropical rants! They have filled your head with mush. Reject the Infidels and their lies, and your ears will soon be soothed.

Why is it when I measure from my feet to my head I measure to X and when I measure from my head to my feet I measure to y?
It also burns when I go potty.

"I have been intensely studing the Cosmos. I get up to about 75 stars then I lose count or it gets light or I need to go on a beer run." Interestingly, the human eye can see only around 3,000-4,000 stars, even in the best "seeing" locations.
The Hubble Space Telescope saw 3,000+ GALAXIES, each with 'billions and billions' of stars--when it was pointed at an 'empty' patch of sky and allowed to gaze for several hours. The size of the patch of sky was roughly 1/140 of the size of the full moon. The resulting "Hubble Deep Field" is below.
Virtually everything you see there is a galaxy. The 'hard points' or objects with spikes are foreground stars. Anything that looks the least bit 'fuzzy' is a galaxy.
