DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Sen. John Edwards defended his backing for the war in Iraq to skeptical Democratic activists Sunday, but said the real test of U.S. policy will come after the fighting ends.
Disputes over the war have left deep skepticism among many Americans and other countries around the world, he said, and the United States must find a way to ease those concerns.

Moderate my arse. This is the same guy who's been little more than a rubber stamp for Daschle over the past 4 years. Suddenly, his presidential run (and run for re-election in NC) approaches, and he decides to make good on his '98 campaign pledge to represent the people of NC.
Not buying this garbage. And the AP was just dying to throw in the "M" word (moderate) to describe a guy who ISN'T. Sounds frighteningly like Clinton circa 1992.

Harkin is the biggest snake in the Democratic Party...and that's saying something.
Edwards is a lightweight...a snake, sure, but a little one.
To: gonewt
Many of the participants were hand-picked members of Democratic interest groups, who dutifully kept the focus on issues
There was the sound of one or two people clapping after Edwards issued his statement
there goes Johnny!

Yeah. Maybe he's a New Democrat, like Clinton and Gore. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Everyone in North Carolina knows that he is not a moderate!
The ONLY reason he backs the war is because of the huge military presence in the state. If he had opposed the war, his approval ratings would have sunk to the single digits, and his campaign knows it.

These Demos are flipping faster than flap-jacks at I-HOP on a busy morning... Clinton taught all these jokesters about tri-angulation -- now they're trying to achieve new forms of this strategy but they are narrowing their audience down to the few remaining loyal Democrats. African-Americans (some 75% against the war) and now the singular largest cohesive segment of the Demos, so at this point, I'd say Al Sharpton has a real chance in the primaries. Just an opinion.

If he promises "the most ethical administration in history", you'll hear barfing from sea to shining sea...

Most of us still can't figure out where Edwards came from. I just hope the Republicans mount a better campaign than the did in '98. Faircloth's only point seemed to be "Vote for me because I'm not him."

opie is an idiot who couldn't win North Carolina in a general election for president. He can't win his seat back and that's why he's running. What the hell - he's got nothing to lose. Either way he'll be slithering back to a courtroom in Jan. 05.

We see him as a lightweight, but a surprising number of Dems think of this guy as their savior.
I run Edwards04.com, and I get quite a few emails from people telling me he's the next JFK, blah blah blah.
It's frightening.
