Female suicide bombers attacked US troops

Iraq's state news agency has claimed two Iraqi women carried out a suicide attack on US forces north-west of Baghdad.

The claim appeared to refer to a blast hours earlier at a checkpoint that killed three coalition soldiers, a pregnant woman and the car's driver.

Arabic satellite station Al-Jazeera later carried videos of two women vowing to commit suicide attacks.

It did not specify if the two were involved in the explosion earlier in the day, but it broadcast their statements immediately after mentioning the Iraqi news agency report.

US Central Command said the car exploded at a US special operations checkpoint in western Iraq. Brigadier General Vincent Brooks said it wasn't clear if the pregnant woman voluntarily took part in the attack.

The apparent suicide attack was about 11 miles south-west of the Haditha Dam. The site is north-west of Baghdad and about 80 miles east of the Syrian border.

Al-Jazeera broadcast separate tapes of two Iraqi women, each of whom stood in front of the Iraqi flag, brandishing an automatic rifle. The videotapes were similar to those of Palestinian suicide bombers distributed after attacks against Israelis.

A woman who identified herself as "martyrdom-seeker Nour Qaddour al-Shanbari" said: "We say to our leader and holy war comrade, the hero commander Saddam Hussein, that you have sisters that you and history will boast about."

In a separate video, another woman, who identified herself as Wadad Jamil Jassem, said: "I have devoted myself to jihad for the sake of God and against the American, British and Israeli infidels and to defend the soil of our precious and dear country."

I agree with you, but would be rather slanted if I didn't note that our own networks are nearly as bad. Some of them cover the same "wounded citizen" "colateral damage" type stuff that makes up the bulk of Al Jazeera's coverage.

I hope we can get all the Hollywood elitists, the liberal media and educators, and all other talking heads who paraded before the cameras to state their anti-war feelings, to come before the camera now to state why they supported Iraq's evil regime.

Well, you know, NOW did say that equality for women has made great strides under Saddam. Though I don't suppose that this is what they had in mind when they praised Ba'athist Iraq's liberal maternity leave provisions.

Nuke the lot, the entire Iraqi population dead does not near approach in value the life of one coalition armed forces member.

The best way to end war and ensure peace is to kill the enemy.

I beleive America should not overreact with undue harshness to these misguided women.

Compassionate checkpoints should be the order of the day.

I call upon the Americans to be restrained in their response so that the situation does not get inflamed further. Further violence is in no-one's interest.

The way to stop suicide bombers is to take out the root causes that cause people, in their desperation to blow themselves up.

We call on all parties, both the Iraqis and the Americans to settle differences at the negotiating table so further violence does not occur.

We call on both parties to resume talks to alleviate the tensions in the region.

Undue harshness?? Hey....I'm a woman. I have three children. Um....there is a normal hormonal reaction among normal women which makes it just about impossible to voluntarily do what that woman is alleged to have done for Saddam's regime.

Coersion is the only logical theory that can explain it. Sacrificing herself and the life of her unblrn child to save her other children, or perhaps her parents.

In other words, the ones I blame with due harshness are the demons who would murder a pregnant woman and child just to get a propaganda coup on the Terrorist News Network (al Jazeera)
