Dozens of flag-waving rallies for American troops in Iraq look like spontaneous, grass-roots gatherings. But many are orchestrated by conservative political groups, just as anti-war protests are led by peace groups and activists on the political left.
Rallies for the troops took place this weekend in cities and towns including New York, San Francisco, Miami, Cleveland, Honolulu, Jacksonville, Concord, N.H., Harrisburg, Pa., and Kingsport, Tenn. More rallies are expected.

The Tucson rally was mainly organized by the parents and other relatives of Marines serving in the Gulf.

In my opinion, Free Republic is the epitome of a grassroots organization. Most of us here are just ordinary citizens without any real ties to major politicos, and I'm pretty sure Jim Robinson isn't receiving any significant amount of funding from any large organizations, national or international.

"

Actually it is not a bad report. At least the words 'ultra-extreme right wing' weren't used.

The best part is that the paper is sold in every city in the country and read in coffee shops and restaruants across the nation!

The Alvin, Texas rally wasn't organized by FReepers, but we did recruit a few more FReepers at the rally. When we hear of these grassroots rallies, we need to promote them, participate in them and report time on FR. Sometimes the only national media coverage they get is on FR. Our troops and America needs to know that small town America supports them too, even if the lamestream media won't bother to cover "flyover country."

Has USA Today done any reporting on who organizes and pays for anti-war rallies? Doubtful. This article seems like a cleverly disguised hit piece. It's intended to portray that conservative have to "stage" their protests...whereas they usually portray liberal protests as spontaneous demonstrations.

sorry about duplicate thread w/USA TOday - GreatRight Wing Conspiracy title
got creative w/the title...obviously havent gotten the hang of Free Republic conventions....
BTW, no one's paying me $$ or anyone else I know on this board
I work at a University. No question that many of the Profs are carrying out their sedition while getting paid to "teach". They do not teach, they indoctrinate.
No matter who's paying, FREEP is much more representative of "mainstream" than the peaceniks. No one's giving us "walking around money" at every election.
We are the "underdogs", the Davids, against the Goliath of
NBC,CBS,ABC,CNN, NYTIMES, BOSTON GLOBE, PBS ad en infinitum

This is precisely why I think that some of the support our troops people should be carrying signs that read, "Anti-war protesters are Communists."

Just remember what my Name Sake did to Goliath.
I have no doubt that a lot of college professors have been receiving money for decades from various anti America countries/leaders. This is their incentive to hate America 24/7.
