WTF Is Geraldo doing?

Posted on 03/30/2003 8:48:09 PM PST by lewislynn

This is the third night I've seen Geraldo giving the location of his company and mentioning the new supply route to the west.

Three nights ago he gave his location by miles. So many miles north of Q8 and so many miles south of Baghdad and so many miles west of ?....

Now he's drawing their war plan in the sand.

I'll put Geraldo in the Peter Arnett category (is anybody really surprised at his treason?).

I went to the FOX website but can't find the e-mail address...I'm pissed.

The only worry I have is that some day, when there is no more coverage of the War on Terror, that Geraldo will have a senior position, and have the eight o'clock timeslot on FOX locked up for eternity.

Maybe on the Fox affiliate but NEVER on FOXNEWS.

I figure he's helping. Seems like we are trying to draw out the IRG. But, they aren't taking the bait. So, maybe he's trying to help entice them, while giving his 'report'.

If what he was doing or saying was a no no, he'd be so outta there!

The other night, during one of Levanthal's reports, he was asked about the possible 4-6 day delay. He stammered a bit and didn't want to say anything and when pressed further he said the person in charge of the group he was with was right there next to him out of camera range. I think someone may always be near by when they give their reports.

Neither do I, and I echo your statement about redemption.

Having said that, I do wonder about his total political outlook, he still thinks a court should handle Hussein, because of the crimes against humanity. (Heard him mention that last week on air.) The ICC makes me shudder.

And, I do know that Geraldo adores Clinton.

On the other hand, when it comes to the War on Terror, I think his passion is genuine, through and through.

We all come with our own bias and prejudice when viewing the world. We are not a homogenous group, by any stretch. We should all be smart enough to be able to filter our news, use our brains, and come to a decision about what we think the truth in any and all of the media is.

Why is Steve Harrigan reporting from Jordan? There's nothing happening in Jordan. Finally someone told Chris Kline, reporting from Northern Iraq, to move out of his bunker.

The same thing happened in 96 with the Chinese shooting missiles over Taiwan. All kinds of reporters were flying out to the USS Independence to cover the big story. They were asking us how we felt about being so close to war with China, etc. We told them we weren't concerned at all, but it was kind of cool to see the Chinese coastline when we were airborne. Needless to say all their reports were filed "reporting from the Straits of Taiwan, this is Ken Brockman."

We were really a couple hundred miles to the east of Taiwan. What we actually were so cheery about was we got to fly for several weeks straight waiting for the whole thing to blow over.

Have you been watching the entire thread?

YES. And I saw nothing about demoralized troops. In fact, only the opposite! Now I ask again, show me how troops have been demoralized.

**I was a public affairs officer in the Air Force. What the reporters are broadcasting (or writing) is being carefully monitored in the field and at HQ.**

This is good inside information. Thanks!

He did have a show in the evening hours on, every once in awhile, on FOXNEWS, I never caught it, though. Wasn't it called, "AT LARGE, with Geraldo Rivera"?

Fortunate are those folks who actually do get to see their sons.

But you have no problem broadcasting his location?

flaglady47, it's not about how I feel about Geraldo as a reporter, only WHAT he reports.

Are you saying that you do not believe in redemption?

No, that's not it. I'm not saying that Geraldo is incapable of changing his spots. I just don't believe he has, yet. Not at all. I've seen him the media for somewhere around 20 years and he's spent the vast majority of that time as a sensationalist. Remember Al Capone's vault? How about "wrestling is fake"? Then there were the numerous satanic cult episodes. And the "believe the children" campaign that hurt so many innocent parents. I'd say he started showing his first signs of "waking up" in the late 90's, but even that has been interlaced with much grandstanding and little regret. It's difficult to view him as sincere. I may not be anti-Geraldo forever ... but I will be cautious forever; and I encourage the same in everyone. We all have our sweet spots that someone who knows what they are doing can use against us. Geraldo has found that sweet spot in many of us in this forum. His conversion to conservatism has been all to convenient with his professional goals timeline. I'm not convinced, but I do remain convince-able.

I imagine you peering at the television screen, listening to hear which division or unit that is being interviewed. It must mean such a great deal to the families who do get to see their much loved soldier, pilot, sailor, etc on the air, alive and well.
Best wishes to you and your son.

That was my feeling as well and it turned my stomach to watch him. It's like he wanted to have an audience and adoring fans and was totally exploiting our troops for himself. I hated it and am e-mailing Fox my disgust.

Calm down. All these "embedded reporters" have been instructed by the military on what they can or can't say. If they fail to abide by these guidelines, the military will pull the plug on them.

As for Geraldo, I think he's showboating.

Actually I'll bet that he's broadcasting well founded disinformation so that Iraqi high commanders might draw on this.

I agree. I like Geraldo. I don't understand why some people hate him so much. Yea, he's goofy sometimes, but that adds to his charm.

Did you hear Heraldo when asked exactly what were his plans for the day? He kinda laughed and said He wasn't doing anything, it was the great guys he was with that were doing what was planned.

Completely paraphrased, of course!

I think Steve Harrigan may have wanted to take a pass on front-line action after Afghanistan. He was in much more danger than Geraldo ever was... remember when Steve was reporting, as the artillery was hitting the building that he was in? Frightening!

There will be lots of big stories for the journalists to follow even after Baghdad is liberated.
