Peter Arnett ( Takes credit for American Opposition to the War ) A MUST READ

JOHN GIBSON: "Peter Arnett, who is now employed as a correspondant by National Georgraphic Television, was interviewed by one of Iraq's Information Ministers on Iraq State TV.
He began interviewing Arnett about what is going on in Iraq and what is going on in America about the war.
What Peter Arnett said is that it is clear that is going on in the US is clear that there is a growing challange of Bush's conduct of the war and then Arnett seemed to take credit for that, by saying that HIS reports from Iraq are helping opposition grow. "
ARNETT:" It is clear that within the United States that there is growing challenge to President Bush and he conduct about the war. And it is clear that our reports here about the Iraqi civilian casualties in the war, and the resistance of the Iraqi forces, are going back to the United States, and it helps those who oppose the war and challenge the policies to develop their arguments. "
So Arnett did not acknowldege what is a Pentagon claim, that the Iraqi casualties could be from Iraqi missiles which are errant missiles which are falling back down on their own Iraqi population. But Arnett went on to claim credit for growing opposition in the United States, but claimed that the Pentagon's War is a failure.
ARNETT: "Now America is reappraising the battlefield plan and delaying the war, for maybe a week. The first war plan has failed because of Iraqi resistance. Now they are trying to write another war plan. "
Of course Peter Arnett is now working for the National Georgraphic program, he has a deal with NBC and appears on another cable network. He has been allowed to do whatever he wants. This while other news agencies have been kicked out of Iraq, including Fox News Channel and CNN. And in addition the Newsday Newspapers has two reporters missing and assumed to be held by authorities in Iraq, yet Peter Arnett is allowed to stay. I guess that we can come to our own conclusions, it appears that Peter Arnett is now operating in Iraq and doing Iraq great favors by his own estimation, in organizing opposition to the war, here in this country, in the United States by his reports, and by giving the Iraqis a growing sense of nationalism, because by his accounts, the initial war plan has failed, and the Iraqi opposition has sent the war planners back to the drawing board.
So there you have it, Peter Arnett in Iraq.

Gibson just pointed out that the ministry of truth building was hit shortly after Arnett's interview. He says there was probably no connection. I wonder if there was a message there. This fella? . . .

Not sure why everyone is so stirred up and suprised about this. Arnett has good personal relationships with the Saddam regime, and he actually likes these guys since they treat him like a king. He decided a long-time ago that he would remain a hack reporter unless he got an angle, and getting in bed with Tariq Aziz, etc. 12 years ago was/is his angle to fame.
He was the same way during Gulf War I. I think the bigger outrage is the charade NBC/MSNBC is doing by claiming that Arnett works for "National Geographic" when that is nothing but a PR front that NBC set-up to help deflect situations like this.....also surprised no one is mentioning Arnett and his "operation tailwind" fiasco at CNN.

I don't agree with you. I think embedding is one of the most brilliant things our military has ever done. The actual embedded people do pretty favorable reporting. They actually experience what the troops experience and are very sympathetic with them. I think it is going to prove to be a definite plus. It's the bastards back home and at the headquarters who are the snakes.

Many folks posting here do not realise that Peter is a CIA
operative tasked with infiltrating Saddam's inner circle.
Thankfully, this is a private website and we should keep this hush hush. If the Iraqi authorities even get a hint of his alter ego then his life would not be worth a plugged nickel.
By gaining access to Saddam, Peter's role in ending the war
will be invaluable. Please do not reveal his true intentions as walls have ears.

"This Is No Worse Than Walter Chronkite..."
It is worse because Walter Cronkite didn't go on the enemy TV to broadcast his message of support to them.
He just did the most damage he could on our own television.

"That makes it a lie."Man! Lawdude!!! I love your precise, concise analysis!!!
Were that all lawyers were required to mimick your integrity, rather than engage in "Professional Courtesy" that Peetar is engaging in here! (which is pure unadulterated bull scat from NBC)

I posted this on another thread, but it bears repeating. My husband and I sent the following email to MSNBC and Nationa Geographic. When we were active duty we couldn't say much, but we're retired now so here we go!
MSNBC and National Geographic,
One of the things we appreciate about this country is freedom of speech. However, when a reporter goes on Iraqi TV and flat out lies in order to give aid and comfort to our enemy in wartime, a line has been crossed. We don't know what Arnett's motive was, but we find his words revolting. What Peter Arnett did was not reporting, it was editorializing. He has crossed a line and is very clearly not objectively reporting what is going on in Iraq.
This display on Iraqi TV was digusting, if not downright traitorous. If he were speaking the truth we would say his comments were ill advised and ill timed; however, he was spewing opinions disguised as fact in an apparent deliberate effort to harm the United States. If he is that enamored of the Iraqi regime and so distasteful of America, we recommend he remain in Iraq when this war is over because he sure won't be welcome back here.
We certainly don't need to watch National Geographic programs, and we can easily reprogram the remote control to SKIP all NBC stations when we surf for news. If this is the kind of propaganda disguised as reporting that you support, then we reserve the right to choose other programming and news sources.
Shame on Peter Arnett for his deliberate misinformation and outright lying. And shame on you for giving him a platform to do it. No wonder MSNBC is a dismal THIRD behind FOX and CNN.

I have made an effort to quit cussing, too. I am also former Navy--retired. It is one of the sins I commit regularly. This is not the time to attempt such a thing--I'll work on some of my other vices for the time being.

We were happy to serve! My husband would "unretire" in a heartbeat if they'd let him, since he's a CH-46 pilot and could be of use. I'd go back, but I doubt there is much need for a female administrative officer in Northern Iraq... LOL!

People People People, Stop and think for a minute.
Mr A is trying to make ammends for past performances and has agreed to a DOD suggestion that he use his cover as a journalist to gain access to roam freely throughout Bagdad under the premisis of making a documentary. While he roams he notes items of interest to the US Military and sends the info out.
The happier he makes the Iraqi hosts the more access he has and the more info he can send.
He may even get access to the Sad Man Hassan himself and be able to tell the US in real time (perhaps through the use of a Sat Phone that relays GPS data).
He is working undercover!!!!!
He either is or he is a completely self absorbed idiot.
Either way Bagdad should be led to believe that the first is true and question Peter using their own special methods....
In which case justice will be served no matter what his thinking was LOL.
To: Hillary's Lovely Legs
If Arnett's statement wasn't treason what is? He was aiding and comforting the enemy by giving them the impression that they should hold out longer. He was explicitly backing the Iraqi regime by saying they were always fair to him, and that he had tried to tell the Bush Administration the Iraqi government would fight bitterly, but they wouldn't listen to him.
If we are targeting the Iraqi leaders, why is Peter still alive. Take the information ministry building down to the ground. Let Arnett freefall about twenty stories; wouldn't bother me. He is on the other side. Imagine that!
