U.S. Soldiers "Kind of Appreciate" Care Package From Peaceniks

BASRA, Iraq (DPI) - American GIs here expressed near-gratitude today for a care package sent by Berkeley students. "I don't know what to make of this garbage," said a puzzled Pvt. Harold Coswell. "Like this box of cous cous. Is this some kind of anti-war statement or just included because it wasn't selling at their co-op?"

Coswell was equally befuddled by other items. "You'd think they'd send a bunch of lonely troops the new SI swimsuit issue. Instead, they send this Amnesty International calendar, filled with depressing pictures of oppressed people. A different culture being repressed for every month of the year. Fantastic."

Is this true? Is there such a calendar? And sending it to the troops--GAWD.

The berkleyites think they are so witty. These troops are in a fight for life and death for oppressed people and they send a calendar from Amnesty International. Liberals really are pea brained, if not simply evil.

If I buy several boxes of chocolate bars, where can I send them so they will get to the boys in Iraq? I know the soldiers would love it, and they would also have something to give to the Iraqi children and make some friends.

Are you looking for a way to lend your support and help our fine and courageous troops?

The USO is in need of monetary donations. I'm told that 'Care' package distribution has been temporarily suspended by order of the Department of Defense.

Okay Okay, if it is a joke posting please state it up front. I go to UC Davis and I wouldn't put it past some of those freaks in Berkley to send a "protest" care package.

ROFL! I also got a chuckle out of the following item from the same page:

La Leche League Releases Breast Milk Cookbook

LOS ANGELES (DPI) - The La Leche League has released a new cookbook for nursing mothers who want to introduce their babies to new foods while maintaining the benefits of breast milk. Recipes for breast milk ice cream, breast milk cheese, and breast milk onion dip will be featured, along with other specialty dairy products. "People today want to give their children natural foods," said Mary Underhill, League president. "What's more natural than festive desserts and cheeses produced from your own body?" The cookbook also comes with larger recipes for entertaining. "A little breast milk casserole can feed an entire Mommy & Me class," said Underhill.

Speaking of things which may not be intended as humor, but which might have that effect on some readers-

There is an excellent site that tries to coordinate book donations for the soldiers. Here is one of their guidelines:

6 - Although some troops will request "anything," we have found that books on the Apocalypse or end of the world are not as well received as mystery novels for example

Uh, yeah....imagine that.

It amazes me that they had to point this out. Anyway, there's the link ; maybe someof our bibliophile freepers can help out.

Don't send chocolate bars, send M&M's with the peanuts or almonds inside. Also send ziplock bags to put them in. M&Ms won't melt like plain chocolate. From what I'm hearing though, the military doesn't want packages sent "to any soldier" because of security and getting swamped with stuff. My advice is find someone who has a son or daughter over there and send them a package with lots of stuff to share. As a former combat arms guy my advice is to send nice soft toilet paper, beef jerkey in ziplock bags, cans of sterno or fuel tabs, powdered gatorade, instant coffee, M&M's, chapstick, and cigarettes or chewing tobacco (skoal or copenhagen). If the guys don't smoke or chew, they can trade with locals or other soldiers that are running out. Don't send alcohol or nudie mags as they'll just get in trouble for it.
