When the liberal press feels a black General is not good enough.(Double Standard Alert)

Brigadier General Vincent Brooks faces some outrageous and stupid questions at his daily Central Command briefings. Some of them deserve to be answered dead on, but because of political correctness and diplomacy and all that, CENTCOM can't always do that. I can, which is why I sometimes answer these questions in a mock briefing. On Thursday, I focused on a question by New York magazine's Michael Wolff.
Wolff said: "I mean no disrespect by this question, but I want to ask about the value proposition of these briefings. We're no longer being briefed by senior-most officers." The press pool applauded the question, which drew a rapier-quick response from Brooks who said, "I've gotten applause already. That's wonderful. I appreciate that."
Can you believe the audacity of complaining that Brigadier General Brooks isn't good enough for the press? If this had been a reporter from a conservative news source, the press would point out the fact that Brooks just happens to be the only African-American general on the scene. Charges of racism would be made, because this question's underlying meaning is clearly that Brooks can't possibly know anything.
This war is not about Michael Wolff's stupid stories in New York magazine. It's about saving lives, including his. This is not a criticism of General Schwarzkopf, but the leader of this Gulf War, General Tommy Franks, isn't going to be out there talking to these people every day. He's busy picking out targets and protecting our soldiers. By the way, Donald Rumsfeld nominated Brooks for appointment to the rank of brigadier general in June 2002. Just another example - like Colin Powell, Clarence Thomas and Condoleezza Rice - of African-Americans advancing more under GOP administrations than Democratic ones.

Now we all know the uproar that would have followed if the reporter in question had been a conservative.

Michael Wolff is not a happy person and it shows.

As I mentioned on leadpenys morning show thread yesterday while watching this remarkable man, I added him to my list of persons to admire, for lots of reasons, not the least of which is his restraint. He is quite attractive as well, but I barely noticed this and I'm sure you will all believe me.

Wolff said: "I mean no disrespect by this question,...Well, bozo, you obviously knew it would be taken as such, that's why your prefaced it thusly.
Another liberal idiot journalist that takes his cues from that old bat, Helen Thomas.

Press pool or Cess Pool? I wish he had responded that he was a lot higher on the military chain of command than they are on the press food chain.

Brigadier General Vincent Brook is not a 'senior-most officer'? Sheesh!
I watched this fine man give statements and answer questions and am completely respectful of his rank and authority. That...and he's handsome. :o)
The reporter has his head up his rear.
To: Trueblackman
Fox was broadcasting the total press conference with Brooks this morning. At the same time NBC was going all negative on the US war effort with their puking heads.
Ah yes, the loyal opposition.

Right. I believe you. :o)

I think Brooks should be nominated for a medal for the hazardous duty he must face everyday. I'm sure he'd rather face the enemy on the frontline rather than the enemy in the press room.

I saw this and I yelled out to my wife to listen.
Yeh, we both hate the media.
His answer was perfect and we both yelled out after he shot down that little pissant.
One Stars are not good enough for the media. Hell, I don't want the newest recruit to talk to them!

Like the "senior-most officers" don't have anything better to do than answer their inane questions. Hello!? They are fighting a war!!
To: Trueblackman
Actually his point had merit. Most information had come from embedded reporters and from the Pentagon sources before the CENTCOM briefings. The problem is that this guy should know that an air conditioned room isn't the best place for war news. He should get his ass out on the battlefield. All the CENTCOM briefings are good for are the video segments and getting official confirmation of events already presumed to be confirmed.

not the least of which is his restraint I noticed that too. I was watching the briefing this morning on CSPAN (the major networks - ABC, CBS, and NBC, chose not to air it), and all I could think was, "There are no stupid questions. However, there sure are a lot of stupid reporters." Some reporter asked him why he wasn't showing more video of various firefights that had been mentioned. He was very diplomatic about it, and noted that some video was hard to get out of the battle zone, and that some simply wasn't taken. My response would have been more along the lines of, "Well, we have troops busy fighting for their lives rather than filming just so that you can get a good story. Plus, we don't spend much effort putting knuckleheads with cameras in the middle of battles, where they are likely to get killed."

I wish he had responded that he was a lot higher on the military chain of command than they are on the press food chain. He should have responded that Franks can only be interviewed by the senior editors of their respective publications and that the next press briefing would be conducted by a corporal attached to sanitation unit....

Just another example .... of African-Americans advancing more under GOP administrations than Democratic ones. That's because under a democratic administration Blacks are put in token positions in order that they can acheive diversity and in Republican administrations Blacks are put into positions of POWER because they are the best people and the brightest people in America for those positions.
The democrats just can't stand it when Black people have power and influence over anything more than just getting out democratic votes.
To: Trueblackman
How interesting. I never paid attention that he was "black." To me he was a wonderful AMERICAN soldier, that made us proud. He's been doing a fabulous job. However, I did notice that he was a HANDSOME soldier.
