Excerpts from the President's speech today:
Over the last week the world has witnessed the skill and honor and resolve of our military in the course of battle. We have seen the character of this new generation of American Armed Forces. We've seen their daring against ruthless enemies and their decency to an oppressed people. Millions of Americans are proud of our military, and so am I. I am honored to be the Commander-in-Chief.~~~
Our military is making good progress in Iraq; yet this war is far from over. As they approach Baghdad, our fighting units are facing the most desperate elements of a doomed regime. We cannot know the duration of this war, but we are prepared for the battle ahead. We cannot predict the final day of the Iraqi regime, but I can assure you, and I assure the long-suffering people of Iraq, there will be a day of reckoning for the Iraqi regime, and that day is drawing near.
~~~
The Army Special Forces define their mission in a motto, "To liberate the oppressed." Generations of men and women in uniform have served and sacrificed in this cause. Now the call of history has come once again to all in our military and to all in our coalition. We are answering that call. We have no ambition in Iraq except the liberation of its people. We ask no reward except a durable peace. And we will accept no outcome short of complete and final success.
The path we are taking is not easy, and it may be long. Yet we know our destination. We will stay on the path -- mile by mile -- all the way to Baghdad, and all the way to victory.
The entire speech can be read here .....
Flying flags for future veterans A Support Our Troops rally was held Saturday in Bandon, organized by George Trott. The Vietnam War veteran said he experienced a very negative reception upon his return after the war and vowed future veterans would have much better experiences while fighting and upon their return from military engagements. Frank's Flight Service provided several fly-overs of private aircraft during the rally, which Trott estimated to be attended by about 200 people. The rally in the parking lot at Hardin Optical was attended by veterans of World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Gulf War, as well as by Bandon police and fire personnel. Posts like this one take 37 years of rust off my carcass and causes this ol' Tailhooker's heart to swell with pride. I cannot imagine being 25 years old and not wanting to have an F&A 18 strapped to my back and being FRagged to deliver a message to Saddam!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS PETITION To: Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld
Whereas, 250,000 Americans in uniform are now protecting America and the world from Saddam Hussein -- the evil dictator who has murdered thousands of his own people, and is bent on the destruction of the United States, and on creating instability in the world; and,Whereas, our American fighting men and women are personally subject to the very weapons of mass destruction that Iraq has denied having; and, Whereas, our soldiers have shouldered the burden of bringing Saddam Hussein, his sons, and his top generals to justice; and, Whereas, while our forces are putting their own lives in danger for freedom, the radical anti-war Left despises their sacrifice. They seek to achieve civil unrest through violent protest. They are doing everything in their power to make the world community believe that the American people do not support our men and women in uniform; Therefore, Mr. Secretary, tell our troops that the American people do wholeheartedly support them in this war in Iraq, and that we we pray for their swift victory and safe return.
