Just monitored on Sky News: embedded reporter says Shiites in Basra have begun, in his words, a "popular uprising" against the Saddam forces still in the city. British Army units are "pouring" artillery into the city (likely isolated areas) preparing to move in.

I say we let the local populace do it for us.
Could this be the plan? WE can't kill civilians, but if the al-Husseini regime's troops do it it's good for us. WE can't hang the dead-enders but if the Iraqi people do it, isn't that good for us too?
Of course we wouldn't be able to see the pictures on TV. That would be too disturbing for gentlepeople such as us, now wouldn't it. Wouldn't it?

We did try "loose federalism" in the United States. It worked fairly well for 150 years. Then the Democrats took over all three branches of the government for 12 years, and trashed the whole Constitution. The history of the United States in 3 sentences. ;-)

So now this so-called "war on terror" is against a political system?
To: Grampa Dave
Sky News: UK military now considers Basrah a military objective, meaning they will take the city.

"I can just see the libs now: 'why didn't the colition protect sadams men from the shi'ites?' "
They couldn't protect Saddam's men, because the Shiites were listening to a modified Billy Idol song on their headphones and they went completely wild and out of control: "With a rebel yell, they cried Saddam must go! In the midnight hours, they cried Saddam must go!"

I agree ... the Shi'ites are generally more fundamental and a candidate for recruitment by any radical fundamentalist coming to power in Iran. In fact,
my book series postulates that very thing.
When I spoke of fascists Saddamites I meant specifically his Ba'ath Party and their militia members.

Ohmygosh, you mean a reporter got it wrong? They have no faith.
Anyone with half a mind heard why the people were keeping their silence and we've had the obvious example of our troops from Ft Bliss. Now that the coalition has the upperhand the people can match their actions with their hearts.

"This is a preview of what will be happening soon in Baghdad."Mrs. Wasp and I were just discussing the fact that after Gulf War I, we stood by while both the Kurds and the Shiites got such a Saddam blood baath, that they have probably been waiting to see if American blood was spilled before investing lives in another up-rising.
Also while all the "embedded" reporters are amassed with our troops on the south of Barfdad, we'll probably attack with paratroopers from the north as a surprise, just to make sure the Baathers are pist-off!!! (literally pist-off, that is!)(as in flies pist-offa the toilet rim)

I think that is called confirmation? :)
