UN WANTS POPULATION CONTROL IN ETHIOPIA and ATTEMPTS TO SKIRT PROCEDURES TO RATIFY FEMINIST DOCUMENT

UNITED NATIONS PROPOSES COERCIVE POPULATION CONTROL IN ETHIOPIA
Cruel "reward and punishment" system proposed for food aid.

The United Nation's emergencies Unit for Ethiopia (EUE) has called for pressure tactics for depopulation in Ethiopia.  Rather than providing food aid, the EUE is suggesting that a "reward and punishment" system should be implemented to implement 'family planning'.

African media quote the EUE report as saying, "If Ethiopia wants to become less dependent on foreign food aid, all appropriate means should be explored to stop the ongoing population explosion."

"The dissemination of family planning methods, possibly linked with relief operations, must be stepped up," it said. "Family planning education should be pursued more aggressively and it might be worth contemplating how far a system of reward and punishment could help implement family planning strategies."

UNITED NATIONS ATTEMPTS TO SKIRT PROCEDURES TO RATIFY CONTROVERSIAL FEMINIST DOCUMENT
Meeting Suspended After Dispute Causes Disarray

NEW YORK, March 24, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A United Nations Commission on the Status of Women meeting was suspended in disarray last week as various country delegates objected to the attempt by the chairman to ratify a document as agreed upon by consensus even though several states objected.  Feminists have pushed hard at the U.N. to say the CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women) convention mandates the provision of abortion but have run into problems attempting to force countries into giving up their religious objection to abortion.

The document in question sought to include a statement which would make countries "condemn violence against women and refrain from invoking any custom, tradition or religious consideration to avoid their obligations with respect to its elimination."  Iran, Egypt and Sudan objected to the phrase but Canada and the EU led the charge in refusing to allow the statement to be deleted from the document or even modified so as to respect religious rights.  In U.N. feminist parlance violence against women includes refusal to allow abortion which is called 'forced pregnancy'.

Despite the disagreements, the chairman of the meeting attempted to call the matter agreed upon and told objecting members to register their objections at the end of the document.  However, Iran objected that the move was a breech of U.N. procedure and was supported in its objection by the United States.  After this the meeting was abruptly suspended.

LEAD CANDIDATE SELECTED FOR INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR

ARIS, March 24, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Members of the steering committee of the International Criminal Court have gone outside the normal process for nomination of a prosecutor for the International Criminal Court and have selected a likely candidate according to the New York Times.  Louis Moreno Ocampo, an Argentine lawyer, is being touted to be the court's first prosecutor, after a secret meeting by the steering committee.  The final endorsement of Ocampo is left to the 89 member countries of the ICC at their April meeting.

Critics of the court have warned that ICC documents afford the prosecutor unchecked power and as such pose immense danger. The United States has therefore refused to take part in ICC proceedings including the selection of judges and prosecutor.

Ocampo, currently a Harvard University Professor, is known for his prosecution of political figures.  He is president of Transparency International for Latin America.

HOLLYWOOD GLORIFIES "INFAMOUS PEDOPHILE" ROMAN POLANSKI
Shows Tolerance for Sexual Abuse of Minors

HOLLYWOOD, March 24, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Academy Awards last night presented glorified director Roman Polanski with the best director award for his recent film The Pianist.   The award emphasized Hollywood's tolerance for sexual abuse of minors since Polanki continues to be a fugitive in France after being caught in the rape of a 13-year-old girl in 1977.

U.S. sex researcher Dr. Judith Reisman recalls Polanski as "an infamous Hollywood pedophile" with a "sadistic sexual history".  A much sanitized description of Polanski's rape of his 13-year-old victim notes that he drugged, raped, sodomized and almost killed a 7th-grade girl he tricked into a hot tub.

Polanski's win was met with a standing ovation from the Hollywood elite at the award ceremonies.  Notably, actor Jack Nicholson did not stand.  Polanski raped the 13-year-old in Nicholson's home while the actor was away.

Oh geez..

These abortion mongers are the same ones who called US immoral?

I am convinced, quit the UN. There's no hope for sanity there.

As far as the food crisis goes, perhaps we should educate them? As even the dimmest of bulbs can plant food and watch it grow.

How hard can that be?

I think HIV is doing this job for them. What are they complaining about? They want fewer black Africans, and their policies and values have encouraged the spread of a disease that is always fatal for poor people.

Immoral government and military police is why there's no food. Same situation in Zimbabwe. Mugabe goes ballistic and now all of Zimbabwe is starving.

Speak Up for Sovereignty and Patriotism!http://www.eagleforum.org/psr/1997/jan97/psrjan97.html

The UN has always chosen socialist one-worlders for leaders. The Secretary-General at the UN founding conference was Soviet spy Alger Hiss. He was followed as Secretary-General by Norwegian socialist Trygve Lie, Swedish socialist Dag Hammarskjold, Burmese Marxist U Thant, Austrian former Nazi Kurt Waldheim, Peruvian socialist Javier Perez deCuellar, and Egyptian socialist Boutros Boutros-Ghali. Each has consistently used the full resources of the UN to promote Communist and socialist causes around the world. The Socialist International (which proudly traces its origins to the First International headed by Karl Marx) today claims tens of millions of members in 54 countries. At its 1962 Congress, it declared: "The ultimate objective of the parties of the Socialist International is nothing less than world government ... Membership of the United Nations must be made universal ..." Almost all of the UN's "independent" commissions for the last thirty years have been headed by members of the Socialist International.

The UN is very Evil

The Lucis (Lucifer) Trust and the United Nations seem very innocuous on the front but their agenda is the ruination of souls and the conversion of the world.

The Lucis (Lucifer) Trust is on WOR radio, New York, New York City's 2nd-Largest AM Radio Station WOR Radio 710 AM on you dial every Sunday from 7:30 am - 8 am. I happened to stumble on it one morning and have been researching it for a few weeks now. New Age and Satan Worship.

The Spiritual Foundation of the United Nations

The Lucis Trust

UN Meditation Room The Lucis Trust is the Publishing House which prints and disseminates United Nations material. It is a devastating indictment of the New Age and Pagan nature of the UN. Lucis Trust was established in 1922 as Lucifer Trust by Alice Bailey as the publishing company to disseminate the books of Bailey and Blavatsky and the Theosophical Society. The title page of Alice Bailey's book, 'Initiation, Human and Solar' was originally printed in 1922, and clearly shows the publishing house as 'Lucifer Publishing CoIn 1923. Bailey changed the name to Lucis Trust, because Lucifer Trust revealed the true nature of the New Age Movement too clearly. (Constance Cumbey, The Hidden Dangers of the Rainbow, p. 49). A quick trip to any New Age bookstore will reveal that many of the hard-core New Age books are published by Lucis Trust.

At one time, the Lucis Trust office in New York was located at 866 United Nations Plaza and is a member of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations under a slick program called "World Goodwill". In an Alice Bailey book called "Education for a New Age"; she suggests that in the new age "World Citizenship should be the goal of the enlightened, with a world federation and a world brain." In other words - a One World Government New World Order.

Luci's Trust is sponsored by among others Robert McNamara, former minister of Defence in the USA, president of the World Bank, member of the Rockefeller Foundation, and Thomas Watson (IBM, former ambassador in Moscow). Luci's Trust sponsors among others the following organizations: UN, Greenpeace Int., Greenpeace USA, Amnesty Int. and UNICEF.

The United Nations has long been one of the foremost world harbingers for the "New Spirituality" and the gathering "New World Order" based on ancient occult and freemasonic principles. Seven years after the birth of the UN, a book was published by the theosophist and founder of the Lucis Trust, Alice Bailey, claiming that "Evidence of the growth of the human intellect along the needed receptive lines [for the preparation of the New Age] can be seen in the "planning" of various nations and in the efforts of the United Nations to formulate a world plan... From the very start of this unfoldment, three occult factors have governed the development of all these plans". [Alice B. Bailey, Discipleship in the New Age (Lucis Press, 1955), Vol. II, p.35.]

Although she did not spell out clearly the identity of these 'three occult factors', she did reveal to her students that "Within the United Nations is the germ and seed of a great international and meditating, reflective group - a group of thinking and informed men and women in whose hands lies the destiny of humanity. This is largely under the control of many fourth ray disciples, if you could but realise it, and their point of meditative focus is the intuitional or Buddhic plane - the plane upon which all hierarchical activity is today to be found'. [Ibid. p.220.]

To this end, the Lucis Trust, under the leadership of Foster and Alice Bailey, started a group called 'World Goodwill' - an official non-governmental organization within the United Nations. The stated aim of this group is "to cooperate in the world of preparation for the reappearance of the Christ" [One Earth, the magazine of the Findhorn Foundation, October/November 1986, Vol. 6, Issue 6, p.24.]

But the esoteric work inside the UN does not stop with such recognized occult groupings. Much of the impetus for this process was initiated through the officership of two Secretary-Generals of the UN, Dag Hammarskjöld (held office: 1953-1961) and U Thant (held office: 1961-1971) who succeeded him, and one Assistant Secretary-general, Dr. Robert Muller. In a book written to celebrate the philosophy of Teilhard de Chardin (and edited by Robert Muller), it is revealed "Dag Hammarskjöld, the rational Nordic economist, had ended up as a mystic. He too held at the end of his life that spirituality was the ultimate key to our earthly fate in time and space". [Robert Muller (ed.), The Desire to be Human: A Global Reconnaissance of Human Perspectives in an Age of Transformation (Miranana, 1983), p.304.]

Sri Chinmoy, the New Age guru, meditation leader at the UN, wrote: "the United Nations is the chosen instrument of God; to be a chosen instrument means to be a divine messenger carrying the banner of God's inner vision and outer manifestation."

William Jasper, author of "A New World Religion" describes the religion of the UN: "...a weird and diabolical convergence of New Age mysticism, pantheism, aboriginal animism atheism, communism, socialism, Luciferian occultism, apostate Christianity, Islam, Taoism, Buddhism, and Hinduism".

This is not Christian theology but New Age paganism. You can also read the NWO quotes I posted, further down this page. Here's another by Curtis Dall, FD Roosevelt's son in law as quoted in his book, My Exploited Father in Law:

"For a long time I felt that FDR had developed many thoughts and ideas that were his own to benefit this country, the United States. But, he didn't. Most of his thoughts, his political ammunition, as it were, were carefully manufactured for him in advanced by the Council on Foreign Relations One World Money group... Brilliantly, with great gusto, like a fine piece of artillery, he exploded that prepared "ammunition" in the middle of an unsuspecting target, the American people, and thus paid off and returned his internationalist political support.

The UN is but a long range, international banking apparatus nearly set up for financial and economic profit by a small group of powerful One World Revolutionaries, hungry for profit and power.

The depression was the calculated 'shearing' of the public by the World Money powers, triggered by the planned sudden shortage of supply of call money in the New York money market... The One World Government leaders and their ever close bankers have now acquired full control of the money and credit machinery of the U.S. via the creation of the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank."

Under the U.N. Gavel
By Sen. Larry E. Craig, R-ID

At its founding, the mission of the United Nations, as stated in its charter, was "to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war." It made no claim to supersede the sovereignty of its member states. Article 2 says that the United Nations "is based on the principle of the sovereign equality of all its Members," and it may not "intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state."

Since then, the United Nations has turned the principle of national sovereignty on its head. Through a host of conventions, treaties and conferences, it has intruded into regulation of resources and the economy (for example, treaties on "biological diversity," marine resources and climate change) and family life (hyping phoney liberalism while masculinity is scorned and western manhood is amputated - causing untold grief to the family unit) (conventions on parent-child relations and women in society). It has demanded that countries institute racial quotas and laws against hate crimes and speech (while the U.N. itself can jail someone for 30 years without trial). Recently the United Nations tried to undermine Americans' constitutional right to keep and bear arms (with proposed restrictions on the international sale of small arms).

Fortunately, many of these have been dead on arrival in the U.S. Senate, successive presidents have refused to endorse others, and in any case the United Nations had little power of enforcement. But in 1998, one mechanism of global government (there it is in the Washington Post folks) came to life with the so-called "Rome Statute" establishing a permanent International Criminal Court (and abolishing the Magna Carta in Britain). Once this treaty is ratified by 60 countries, the United Nations will wield judicial power over every individual human being -- even over citizens of countries that haven't joined the court.

While the court's stated mission is dealing with war crimes and crimes against humanity (what about their own crimes against humanity when they committed widespread genocide in the Balkans and East Timor? Dare I say they are hypocrites?) -- which, because there is no appeal from its decisions, only the court will have the right to define -- its mandate could be broadened later. Based on existing U.N. tribunals for Yugoslavia and Rwanda, which are models for the International Criminal Court, defendants will have none of the due process rights afforded by the U.S. Constitution, such as trial by jury, confrontation of witnesses or a speedy and public trial (that's a communist court system!).

President Clinton signed the Rome treaty last year, citing U.S. support for existing U.N. war crimes tribunals. Many suppose the court will target only a Slobodan Milosevic or the perpetrators of massacres in Rwanda, or dictators like Iraq's Saddam Hussein. But who knows? To some people, Augusto Pinochet is the man who saved Chile from communism; to others he is a murderer. Who should judge him -- the United Nations or the Chilean people?

In dozens of countries, governments use brutal force against insurgents. Should the United Nations decide whether leaders in Turkey or India should be put in the defendants' dock, and then commit the United States to bring them there? How about Russia's Vladimir Putin, for Chechnya? Or Israel's Ariel Sharon? Can we trust the United Nations with that decision (the more evil these premieres are - the more the U.N. loves them)?

The court's critics rightly cite the danger to U.S. military personnel deployed abroad. Since even one death can be a war crime, a U.S. soldier could be indicted just for doing his duty. But the International Criminal Court also would apply to acts "committed" by any American here at home. The European Union and U.S. domestic opponents consider the death penalty "discriminatory" and "inhumane." Could an American governor face indictment by the court for "crimes against humanity" for signing a death warrant?

Milosevic was delivered to a U.N. court (largely at U.S. insistence) for offences occurring entirely within his own country. Some say the Milosevic precedent doesn't threaten Americans, because the U.S. Constitution protects them. But for Milosevic, we demanded that the Yugoslav Constitution be trashed and the United Nations' authority prevail. Why should the International Criminal Court treat our Constitution any better (they're already destroying the 2nd amendment with their gun grab and the 1st with their phoney 'hate crime' nonsense)?

Instead of trying to "fix" the Rome treaty, the United States must recognize that it is a fundamental threat to American sovereignty. The State Department's participation in the court's preparatory commission is counterproductive. We need to make it clear that we consider the court an illegitimate body, that the United States will never join it and that we will never accept its "jurisdiction" over any U.S. citizen or help to impose it on other countries.

I am perplexed. These are the times I wish I was Bill Gates. America is only 227(?) years old. A lot of the ME countries and African countries (except South Africa I guess) are very...developing shall we say (PC freeper alert!). How would we be able to go into Ethiopia without seeming like we're butting into people's business? Drop leaflets written in amharic(?) of the constitution of the US and inspirational documents of freedom? Or the even the Bible? To me that's better than arms. It seems that when we give people arms, they manage to turn it against us.

Almost ALL Ethiopians are Orthodox Christians and they oppose abortion as MURDER. Birth control, as in pills or such, is not an issue with the Orthodox, though.

Planned Parenthood and the UN hate christians, christianity and their pro-life beliefs. I hope they will throw the UNs worthless condoms/pills/creams back in their faces and tell them NO THANKS.

South Africa used to be THE most advanced, civilized nation, in SubSaharan Africa. Ethiopia, whilst an older nation ( but actually, only marginally ! ), has NEVER been anything other than a third world country.

The UN and the lefty Western busybodies, made South Africa hand over its government to a pack of COMMUNIST THUGS . They butted into South Africa's sovernty, totally, and afterwards, completely ignore what they hath wrought.

Great Job (as always!)

This should be mandatory reading. Most people think that there is nothing going on deeper than what Dan Blather at CBS (Commie Broadcast System) spouts.

UN... U.N... Hmmm.... That name sounds familiar somehow.

Wasn't that one of those multinational organizations that disintegrated some time around the end of the 20th Century?

(I'm getting old, so my memory could be failing me here, but I could swear I've heard of it...)

Arrests In China After Police Find Babies Hidden In Bags
By Patrick Goodenough
CNSNews.com Pacific Rim Bureau Chief
March 24, 2003

Pacific Rim Bureau (CNSNews.com) - Chinese police have made several arrests in connection with a foiled plot to smuggle and sell 28 baby girls who were found hidden in nylon bags on a bus. The babies are believed to be victims of China's notorious "one child" policy.

One of the 28 girls was dead by the time police, acting on a tip-off, made the horrific discovery last week, according to reports in Beijing press. All the babies are under three months old, and they apparently were drugged to keep them quiet.

Chinese newspapers have published photographs of the small bags, now empty, strewn in front of the bus, which was stopped and searched in southwestern China.

The surviving infants were being looked after by nurses at a nearby school, and said to be doing alright.

Police are trying to establish where the babies came from and where they were headed. Some of those arrested were traveling on the bus when the discovery was made.

Although it remains to be seen what lay behind the smuggling attempt, China's much-criticized population control policies may be an important factor.

China enforces coercive family planning laws, dubbed the "one child" policy, because in many cases parents are fined or otherwise punished for having more than one child.

Some sectors of society -- such as rural dwellers or members of ethnic minorities -- are allowed to have a second child if the first is a girl.

Chinese society traditionally values boys higher than girls.

Sons are seen as the ones that carry on the family business. Also, sons are more likely to be able to help support ageing parents in a country where welfare services for the elderly are scarce.

A combination of the "one child" policy and the higher value placed on boys has led to documented cases of infanticide and forced abortion.

It has also seen the girl to boy ratio become unnaturally skewed. The international norm is around 106 boys to every 100 girls, but in China the ratio is closer to 117:100. As a result, experts predict that as many as 30 million young Chinese men may struggle to find partners by 2020.

Some parents may feel compelled to sell or give away unwanted baby girls, to avoid having to pay fines for having exceeded their quota.

The Chinese government is acutely aware of the ramifications of its family planning policies, even if it has done little to ease the restrictions.

On Saturday, Chinese media reported on a recently-promulgated government regulation outlawing sex-selective abortion.

One report in a state-owned paper said the law aimed to "discourage the discriminatory practice of giving preference to male babies over females."

It said families, especially in rural areas, "in the past years" would sometimes abort female babies and only have boys.

"According to the [new] regulation, determining the sex of the fetus and then aborting can only be done for medical reasons," with the approval of three doctors, it said."

---------------------------------------

I find it unbelievable that of all countries, China takes a stand that the USA won't. We don't stop abortion for any reason.

BBC article from 1999 here

Viewpoints: Population control
Wednesday, 30 June, 1999, 15:19 GMT 16:19 UK

excerpt

"Five years ago, the Clinton administration and other western interests utilised the Cairo conference to promote their agenda of population control.

"They called for 'ethnic cleansing' of the undeveloped world through worldwide abortion on demand and pushed global birth control and autonomous rights for children as young as 10 without parental rights.

-----------------------------------

IMHO, allowing abortion has nothing to do with rights or privacy and everything to do with world population control.

What no one allows for is the fact that if a woman doesn't want children, she can choose not to get pregnant in the first place and there are many, many ways NOT to get pregnant in the first place!

Somehow we've lost the fact that pregnancy causes children.

Good article with a brief history of how we got where we are today.

The People Problem: Abortion, The Family and Population Control
by Linda D. Bartlett

Doomsayers have been around a long time. In 1798, Thomas Malthus believed that man's ability to produce food would inevitably be outstripped by his ability to reproduce himself. He predicted starvation and economic collapse. Although Malthus was proven wrong, his predictions raised questions - questions which have allowed humanist and socialist thinkers to get their foot in the door.

In the early 1930's, Swedish social scientists, Alva and Gunnar Myrdal, made an extraordinary discovery. As advocates for socialism, modernity, feminism, and secularism, they did riot need to attack the family as an institution of oppression. They merely needed to redefine the family. No longer should the family be an autonomous social unit rooted in religion and tradition, but a "great national household," fully industrialized, where women stood by men as comrades in industrial labor and where children became a social responsibility. As the Myrdals put it, the population question could be transformed "into the most effective argument for a thorough and radical socialist remodeling of society."1

In 1958, Richard L. Meier proposed that sterilization was the way to achieve the "revolution." By moving women into jobs that demanded geographic mobility, stable home and community lives would become impossible. Easy divorce, he added, would also facilitate more sterile marriages. The family model resting on marriage, motherhood and work in the home should be purposefully eroded.2

In 1966, Edward Pohlman looked in horror at the "Baby Boom" of the 1950's. He proposed that large families of three or more children should be redefined as the "flaunting" of the common good for "selfish ends."3

In 1968, Stanford University biologist Paul Erhlich predicted that hundreds of millions of persons would die of starvation worldwide and that the U.S. would have food rationing by the end of the 1970's. He predicted that by 1984, the U.S. would be dying of thirst. just like Malthus before him, Erhlich was proven wrong, but his theories are alive and well in the classroom. Tim Stafford was a student at Stanford when Erhlich's book, The Population Bomb, was published. He remembers his brother coming home from school to inform his parents that "they had sinned by having more than four children.4

Enter the 'lifeboat game," a common exercise in values clarification classrooms across the country. There are too many people in the world, students were told. Some people will have to "get out of the boat" in order to save the others.

In 1970, Frederick Jaffee, a Planned Parenthood vice president, offered the following proposal in order to provide the U.S. with specific ways to reduce its population growth rate: "encourage increased homosexuality...compulsory abortion for out-of-wedlock pregnancies...compulsory sterilization of all who have two children except for a few who would be allowed three...childbearing confined to only a limited number of adults...payments to encourage abortions."5

In 1971, Edgar Chasteen, a board member of Zero Population Growth, wrote The Case for Compulsory Birth Control.

In 1973, Roe v. Wade, provided "one reasonable solution to population control.6

On August 27,1990, ABC's Good Morning America 'interviewed photographer/author Peter Beard regarding human and animal populations in East Africa. "More food means more people," Beard said. "That's a quote from Norman Borlaug, the famous expert on world population. When you have massive starvation like you have in many countries in East Africa...the worst thing that you can do is to prop up the situation with food." However Beard had great compassion for African crocodiles, saying, "Crocodiles are 170 million years old; they represent evolution better than any other creature I can think of. They're highly intelligent, great sense of smell, hearing, everything you can imagine. They're resilient, they're fantastic." According to Beard, man is "the most dangerous animal of all...[because of] selfish population excesses."7

In 1991, the United Nations issued a document for the International Conference on Population and Development to be held in Cairo. The major thrust of the section on "Gender Equality, and Empowerment of Women" is to level the natural complementarity between man and woman in marriage, and replace it by government schemes that make men and marriage largely unnecessary. Dr. Allan C. Carlson translates this into a more honest image: "the state seeks to construct a 'mother-child-state' family system to replace the natural family, forming a kind of government harem, achieved through the massive subsidy of non-marital childbearing and the heavy taxation of families based on marriage."8

In 1992, former World Bank President Robert S. McNamara said that the world population was growing out of control. He stated that we "may well destroy the world environment, undoing decades of economic and social progress." McNamara proposed that the World Bank finance contraceptives for every country and that governments make sure people use them. He proposed that the UN Population Fund monitor each country to make sure that people aren't having more children than they are permitted under the plan. The "proposal" became reality in 1996 when President Clinton signed Executive Order #12852 to create the Council on Sustainable Development. This council is to advance an aggressive "family planning" agenda to reduce the world's population (this always includes abortion-on-demand), monitor population growth, and call for "tolerance" and "diversity" (code words 'in the past for promotion of homosexuality).9

So much for "right to privacy." So much for "choice."
Are people the problem?
Do we need to fear disaster because there will be too many mouths to feed?
Is mandatory abortion, contraception and sterilization necessary?

Consider the following---

A. In 1991, various estimates placed the population of Nigeria, West Africa at somewhere between 112 and 123 million. That was forecast to increase 500% 'in the next 50 years. The U.S. Agency for International Development and the World Bank pressured the Nigerians to implement population control programs. Planned Parenthood pushed for legal abortion. In November of 1991, the Nigerian government carried out a census - the first accurate account in 20 years. The borders were closed for three days. Work places, stores and schools were closed. Everyone was told to stay home for three days. The census-takers went out into the country. The numbers were totaled in March of 1992. How many people were living in Nigeria? The official count was 88.5 million-a far-cry from 123 million.10

B. Dennis Avery, director of the Center for Global Food Issues at the Hudson Institute says, "Biotechnology - including the genetic engineering of higher yielding, pest resistant rice, com, vegetables and other crop plants and the widespread adoption of modem farm methods that conserve sod and water resources - will give us the opportunity to banish hunger from even the poorest nations in the Third World. This is not a pipe-dream."11

C. Julian Simon, a senior fellow at Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, doesn't buy the starvation scares. "Apocalypse has a lot of psychological attraction," he notes. Simon believes that current technology - if used properly - can produce adequate food far into the future. While about 14.5% of the globe's people are short of food, that's a sharp decrease from a quarter-century ago, when nearly a third lacked enough food. Moreover, in developing countries, eight of ten have adequate diets, vs. only 64% among 1970's lower population. Simon offers to bet as much as $100,000 that key life indicators such as food supply, life span and natural resources will continue to get better or cost less.12

D. The entire world population could be housed in the state of Texas. If you convert the 262,000 square miles of Texas into square feet (multiply by 5,280 feet per mile twice) and divide by the world's population estimated at 5.6 billion, one finds there are more than 1,300 square feet per capita. A family of five could comfortably co-occupy more than 6,500 square feet of living space.13

E. A nation's economic system is a key factor in determining its wealth or poverty - niot the number of people living in the nation. Singapore, for example, has 12,303 people per square mile, yet it is one of the most prosperous Asian nations. India, with a population of 683 per square mile, is poverty-stricken. Why is there such a difference between Singapore and India? Singapore adopted a free market system while India is a socialist nation discouraging job creation.

F. Total fertility rates 'in several European nations have fallen to new all time low levels. Russia's birth rate has fallen below the country's death rate. China's fertility level dropped below replacement level in 1992. The number of deaths in Japan are expected to exceed the number of births by the year 2006. Most developed countries have achieved fertility rates of under 2.2 children.14

G. The idea that growth is continuous is an unproven theory. Epidemics, wars, disasters and changes in human behavior patterns all affect population growth. Instead of heralding expected increases as a sign of progress due to the drop in mortality rates, many writers use anticipated growth to provoke fear.15

H. The family as a basic pattern of social organization can be found in all healthy human communities. Anthropologist George Murdock, in his classic cross-cultural survey, Social Structure, found the institution of marriage "in every known human society," with the only major variation being the choice between monogamy and polygamy." Also universal, he said, was "a division of labor by sex," rooted in the biological differences between men and women in reproductive functions but extending as well to production and consumption roles.16

I. "The family has always been the cornerstone of American society," said Ronald Reagan. "Our families nurture, preserve and pass on to each succeeding generation the values we share and cherish, values that are the foundation for our freedoms. In the family, we learn our first lessons of God and man, love and discipline, rights and responsibilities, human dignity and human frailty. Our families give us daily examples of these lessons being put into practice."

Lessons From History

The Greeks were committed to building the ideal society. The basic philosophy of Greece was, "Man is the measure of all things. Man, not the gods, the relative, not the absolute." Reason was worshipped and the human mind was supreme. Only the strong survived in Greece. Deformed or weak were hurled from cliffs or abandoned to die. Athenians had tax-financed medicare. The government became a bureaucracy bound in red tape and taxes. There was even a tax on tax receipts.17

In early Rome, fathers were respected as the head of the family. Education of children was the responsibility of the parents and, in time, strong Roman families produced a strong nation. The empire was united. As Roman families prospered, it became fashionable to hire educated Greeks to care for the children. Greek philosophy, with its humanistic and godless base, was soon passed on to Roman families. Women demanded more rights and, in order to accommodate them, new marriage contracts were designed. By the first century A.D. the father had lost his legal authority. It was delegated to the village, then to the city, then to the state, and finally to the empire. Citizens complained about housing shortages, soaring rents, polluted air, crime, and the high cost of living. Unemployment was a problem. To solve it, the government created civil service jobs, including health inspectors and tax collectors. In the final days, Rome tolerated all religions except Christianity.18

A Lesson From Present Day

When pro-life and family representatives from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda met at a Nairobi conference early in 1994, they came to the following conclusion: Africa and Kenya are great land masses which can easily sustain more people than at present. The myth of overpopulation is the greatest hoax and lie of the century. We reject the lie as a mythical monster that does not exist. Kenya looks to a bright future because of the dynamism, energy and hope of its youth, who are the heirs of the nation. The greatest resources of Africa and Kenya are its own people.

...U.S. Aid for International Development, U.N. Fund for Population Control, International Planned Parenthood, and the World Bank, by pumping millions of dollars into population control in Africa and Kenya, prey upon the people like hungry scavengers. The government misjudges the situation by attacking babies instead of attacking its own mismanagement, ineptitude, corruption, greed, shortsightedness, and its failure to exploit and develop the natural resources which are so profuse and abundant in this vast continent.

...We request that contraceptive imperialism by international agencies be stopped immediately and that this new form of colonialism be buried as a defunct mistake in history.19

Iran, Egypt and Sudan objected to the phrase . . .

There is nothing more disgraceful than finding the U.S., Canada and Western Europe consistently on the wrong side of these population control and feminist issues at the United Nations, while these Islamic nations are on the right side.

The U.N.'s radical leftist feminist and childrens rights charters are surely masked when they get the PR of being humanitarians.
