Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Fox has been broadcasting that film for a while this morning. Might have been from the CentCom briefing, but I was asleep during it. It's either the 101st or the 82nd.

oh man...thank God I wasn't drinking anything when I read that.

I do disagree. They'll continue to fight the war on terror and share intelligence with the US because it directly AFFECTS their safety and security in their own country.
I don't know how anyone can think ANY country is fighting the war on terror solely for the gain of the US. France's Muslim population is 5%+ and they need to be aware of terrorists living in their midst. Germany as well.
Just because we actually live up to our word does not mean these countries stop supporting the US. France and Germany(although a bit less) believe they can get by without US support. It's been demonstrated over and over and over again. So, let them.
I have great faith the US will do just fine without support from France, and to a lesser part Germany.
France needs to learn when you're standing in a deep hole, stop digging.

In post 1617 you asked about Mort Kondracke's book, Saving Millie.
It is a wonderful book, a cross between a love letter and a medical report. Millie was a social worker and developed Parkinson's Disease at a young age. Michael J. Fox wrote the forward to the book.
I highly recommend it, but male or female, don't start the first page without a box of tissues at hand.
Mort and Fred attend the same church and prayer group.

The RATS will use the supplemental as an excuse to gut the tax cut. Therefore, the Administration has to make sure that frozen Iraqi assets will defray the cost of the war and/or portion of the proceeds from Iraqi oil sales defray the costs of the war.
Bush cannot politically afford to have the tax cut watered down. The economy needs the tax cut, badly.

Depends on your view of war. Yes the way the media was playing it yesterday this was a 30 day cost.
The way I understood from the speech that Bush gave, it would cover the deployment cost, the cost of the actually fighting and the cost of restocking the equipment used as well as some humanitarian aid.
