Today, several members of the Chicagoland Chapter, 3 to be exact, showed up to deny the Anti-Bush protestors there limelight. In attendance was justshutupandtakeit, TheRightGuy, and myself. We were joined by a UofC student who heard of the rally through school, and another gentleman who was disgusted at the display of hatred for our country.

The crowd was somewhere between 400-600, not all students. There were several 'fiery' speeches by persons I do not know, nor could I understand everything they said, especially during the introductions. I did hear tidbits of the speeches, things that are unrepeatable here because of language. Of course the majority spoke fervently against Bush.

As I pointed out to several who questioned my viewpoints, my reason for being there, etc., the crowd wasn't against Saddam, but America. At one point TheRightGuy quipped to me that he wanted to leave he was so sickened by the asinine babble that was spewing forth from the speakers. Gladly, he stuck in there.

A couple of minor things to report, well sort of minor, but mostly indicative of what is the standard for this crowd (I recieved, not as vile, but similar comments in Lincolnwood several weeks earlier). Several students told me to go home, the usual occurred "why aren't you there now", "would you send your kid?", etc. At two points, several tried to block our view, and others views of us by standing in front of us with their N.I.O.N. banner; another set of 'womyn' wearing fake burqua's made the same attempt. Like their arguements, it was so easy to slide to the side and take them from the flank.

Lastly, there were two women who just outright make me feel disgraced. One woman called me racist, simply because I am white and that I am an American. She was incessent in her view that she shouldn't leave the country she "hates" (serious, that is a quote), but wants to change it from within - keep trying honey 'cuz you are losing. Second was a student aged girl who from about 20' propelled a host of words at me, sadly I couldn't understand her because I was wearing my 180 earmuffs and the loudspeaker was going. So I motioned several times that I couldn't hear her and she turned away disgusted. As the marchers left on their way to march around the Loop, she left and actually SPIT at us. I got many laughs as I called her on her violence at a peace rally. I may sound mean, but I hope she was crying because her actions were that of a violenty ill mind.

Well, for you Chicagoland area FReepers keep an eye on the news, there were 2 helicopters hovering the whole time. There was a channel 5 news woman who interviewed some people behind us, the adjusted the angle after I turned around and started waving my signs. Two different CBS 2 cameramen video taped me during different times. Bot taking advantage of my counter chants to the chants occurring from the stage.

I implore the rest of the Chicagoland Chapter to be prepared. The next protest is slated for Sunday March 16. We need PRESENCE. Three of us does not a presence make.

Most of the stores on Michigan Ave are open to atleast 9p on Saturday night. Keep an eye on the IL Locale board for more announcements, if not threads. I'll try and remember to get you information about the next one.

Rmlew was spit on 5 times at the NYC counter-demonstration 3 weeks ago. Thankfully, I have not had the dubious pleasure of having to endure that.
