North Korean Missile Warhead Found in Alaska
The warhead of a long range missile test fired by North Korea was found in the US state of Alaska, a report to the National Assembly revealed yesterday.
According to a United States document, 'The last piece of a missile warhead fired by North Korea was found in Alaska,' former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Nakayama was quoted as saying in the report.
'Washington, as well as Toyko, has so far underrated Pyongyang's missile capabilities.'

If they had done this, we would have detected it.
Agreed, if it was aimed at Alaska, but see my #23. I'm no expert, so my stratospheric fragment scenario may be nothing. Smuggling the warhead fragment in is another possibility, and not especially reassuring.
Or, the story could well be a complete hoax.

This is waaaaaaaaaay too little news to get excited about. Where in Alaska? Innocuous explanations are perfectly possible. Was it found on the shoreline of one of the Aleutian islands? That would make perfect sense, since North Korea test fires missiles into the sea and the currents run that way.
Of course, if it was a fired missile that came down a few miles from Anchorage, I would be very concerned. ;)

Perhaps one of fragments ended up in Alaska? It may have floated up there with all those Nike tennis shoes.

But the radar would still pick up a low flying ordinace right.. Well, you could avoid ground-based radar by sneaking up inside a fjord, and launching it below the ridge altitude.
But rocket engine plumes are detected by IR signature by satellites.
Perhaps the N. Koreans have a giant secret Sling-shot on a board a one of their ships........

Nice recall and quick work.

Great find; looks like the story is true. Further proof that the media is controlled by Commies; this should have been big news.

North Korea is hell--bent on getting attention. Is this just another way to get a reaction out of the US?

The former Japanse PM was stating that Washington 'is underestimating the range of NK Missiles'
If that is the case would it be that suprising for a spent tested warhead to wash up on the Aleutian Island chain?

Stinks to high heaven.
You're all correct in viewing this with a high level of skepticism, but see my #23 and #47. There are some other possibilities, in between a hoax and an undetected missile.
We need to verify or refute the existence of the purported fragment, and its provenance.
