I'm just wondering... Do you ever have anything positive to say about anything? Aren't you the know-it-all guy who is almost as negative as Jim Underscore? Or am I thinking about some other "John" with initials in his name?
To: demlosers

"Actually, a sub moves slower under water than above water." I will say very politely, you don't know one thing about modern subs. They go faster underwater than on the surface. If you want to know how/why FReep mail me. (Old Sub Guy)

I think they'd have a hard enough time sinking one of these submarines . . .

You're right.
Lots of other carriers go into Honolulu.
Plus, Drudge missed the issue of security at Kauai and Maui.

I hope you're right. But as the public's memory of 9/11 fades, I wonder.

Yes and I wish they would shut up. We are at war. At any point in the history of the world has a nation at war gone public with their weaknesses?
Can you see England allowing column to run in the Times titled "How I would bring England down if I was Napoleon?"
But I see people on TV all the time going, Well, if I was a terrorist I would
. I want to yell at them Thanks a lot buddy! If one of them takes your idea and runs with it I hope you have a front row seat.

I am married to a former squid, submariner, nuke... so, I know a little about submarines, and their capabilities.
And Drudge's scenario is really very funny... interesting to watch the alarmists shriek in terror!
That being said, subs are the safest place to be during war, do you know why?
NO WINDOWS=NO DUCT TAPE!
Best wishes.

Actually, a sub moves slower under water than above water
Incorrect in the case of a modern "teardrop" shaped nuclear submarine. They're designed to spend pretty much all their time submerged, and are actually FASTER underwater than surfaced; there's a tremendous amount of turbulence at the air/water interface and actually causes more drag.
However, WWII U-Boats, US Gatos, etc. WERE faster on the surface than underwater; for one, they could use their diesels on the surface, but were on batteries underwater, and their hulls were designed to be faster on the surface, since these subs spent 95% of their time on the surface.

Kurtz even said to his face that a lot of people had even used the word "traitor" in conjunction with the interview! How did Rather react or did he simply do the two-step?
