I'm at a loss. Mr. Rogers was a dear friend when I was a child, I always enjoyed visiting with him and all of his neighborhood friends.

The world will be a much colder place without the warmth and genuine affection that Fred Rogers had for the children and for mankind in general. Even though I have no children, the emptiness left in the world of the young will never be filled and I am saddened.

God be with the family of this good man and may they know peace in the same measure as the love he gave to us all.

Hank Baughman on WSHH didn't know. He came in with 2 minutes to news at 5. Luckily I prep that station too so I filled him in. He ended up doing about a two minute obit and blowing off most other news.

I'm doing news at WJAS and just starting to put my casts together. I figure I might just do the same thing Hankie did.

And yes, Thank you Mr Rogers for making the neighborhood a nicer place.

It's like watching a piece of your childhood pass from you. Very sad. God's speed Mr. Rogers.

Fred Rogers Dies at 74
For more than 30 years, Fred Rogers gently invited millions of children to be his neighbor as host of the public television show "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood."

It's a sad day in the neighborhood.

How fortunate you are to have known him ! I remember him saying, "won't you be my friend ?" and think what a gentleness he brought to the lives of children. A good soul who lived his faith.

Very sad news. I remember that the highlight of second grade was if the class was good, the teacher would cart out one of those huge black and white TV's and put on Mr. Roger's the last half hour of class.

Condolences to his family.

The neighborhood just got a little less beautiful today. King Friday's kingdom is in morning.

RIP Fred Rogers. You always had the ability to communicate to children everywhere without talking down to them (You hear that Barney and Tinkie-Winkie!). As a child, I found your show a MUCH more pleasurable alternative to that other, Ghetto-oriented show on PBS (the one with talking trash cans and a big yellow bird).

Another link to my childhood is now gone. Thanks for the memories Mr. Rogers!

Once they had a segment on Candid Camera where they ushered TV critics to their assigned rooms in a hotel during a TV Critic Convention, then Funt proceeded to tell them that the TV in their room was broken and wouldn't be replaced.

Of course, the TV critics hemmed and hawed, treated the staff rudely, etc.

Then Peter Funt said that a surprise guest had checked into the hotel, so they decided to play the same trick on him.

The unexpected guest was Fred Rogers. He was taken to his room and then given the same scenario that the others had been given about how the TV was broken, etc. etc.

In true "Mr. Rogers" character, he just looked at Funt and said, "That's okay, I don't have to watch TV."

It was a moment that let you know that Mr. Rogers was Mr. Rogers. A truly kind, compassionate, caring guy who was the same guy in person as he was on TV.

That's so sad, I watch re-runs every day with my daughter.
Even though I knew they were re-runs, it was comforting to know that he was still alive.
As Fred enters the Gates of Heaven, I can picture our Lord saying: "Well done, my good and faithfull servant."

thanks for the article.

During the Persian Gulf War, Rogers told youngsters that "all children shall be well taken care of in this neighborhood and beyond - in times of war and in times of peace," and he asked parents to promise their children they would always be safe. "We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility," he said in 1994. "It's easy to say 'It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.' "Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes."

God bless his family. He's going to be missed.

I have it on good authority that King Friday the 13th has declared at least a week of mourning.

A not-as-beautiful day in the neighborhood. The kindest man in the mass media, and enough generosity of spirit to personally justify -- almost -- tax-funded "public" television. Rest in peace, Fred.
