Ahhhhhhhhh
It feels so good to say that I am finally leaving southern Kalifornaistan. Good-bye Gray Davis, Good-bye LA, Good-bye Highway 5 and 405 at 5 in the afternoon!
Good-bye draconian gun control!
Im taking a job with a company thats flight department is based out of Salt Lake City and the wife and I began looking for a place about a month ago, slowly working our way around the area. One weekend we just decided to drive up to Jackson Hole WY and instantly fell in love. The drive was wonderful up I-15 to Ogden and the total trip was around 290 miles, thats if I ever need to drive it.
We immediately found a nice lady at Jackson Hole Reality to help us locate our dream home and well, the rest will be history shortly.
Being in corporate aviation one of the perks that comes with a FT job in a Fortune 50 company is usually travel passes. My future company has travel passes with Delta and Skywest into and out of SLC, so I can commute to and from work directly out of JAC into SLC, then make my way to our corporate hanger on the same field.
The only downside (if you want to call it that) is that Im leaving the flight deck of the worlds greatest bizjet IMHO, the Gulfstream V for its direct competitor the Bombardier Global Express, which this company has a pair of. On the up side its more pay, cheaper cost of living and better benefits not to mention the view out our newly purchased backdoor is kick a$$!!!

Jackson Hole Reality is intriguing, though.

Congrats to you. I have lost my job here in the wacko leftist/commie hole of Olympia, WA and hope to find something in a more conservative location myself. I hope I get as lucky as you!

Oh, pardon me.
Note to self; Drink more beer. Then the world will make sense.

I'm sorry. I just couldn't help it. It's not you. I see stuff like that and it's like fingers on a chalk board.
And it's YOU'RE, not YOUR. Short for "you are",.....ack!! I'm doing it again!!

We lived in Wyoming (Cody & Rawlins) 12 years after being transferred down from Alaska, got transferred out to Kalifornia in 86 (thank G-D it was to conservative Bakersfield) fought like mad, got transferred back to Cody in 91 and retired there same year. Live in Arizona now but the wife is making Wyoming nesting noises to get back close to grandkids.
This is our 12 year old grandson's page for his hunting exploits, we are so proud of him.

Is there a tax expert in the audience? I had been told that this effort to extort taxes was struck down. Is that not so?

Well, yes and no.
The way a corporate schedule works is, you usually have a report date/time for your trip to begin, it may or may not be the home base of the aircraft, for instance the plane could be in NYC and the current crew has maxed out their allotted hours they can fly so we would commercial to NYC, pickup the jet then begin our rotation which may have us way from base for up to two weeks at a time.
Normally you would be notified that you have a trip on say Monday, it will be a four day trip and you need to report by 0500 Monday morning to flight ops.
We usually work 15 to 18 days a month but could spend as much as all of it way from home.
We dont commute to and from work everyday, most of the time when I go to work its for several days at a time.

However leaving the cockpit of a GV for the Golobal express may take some getting used to! Congrat's on overthumbing Greyout Davis! I wish you well and keep the houses smaller!!

Moving to Jackson Hole with 150K plus salary, or independent wealth, or with a trust fund, is a great move. I can't criticize it in any way. You should climb to the top of Whetstone (sp) Mountain if you can for one of the greatest views on this planet. If you can do it with a birder that is an added plus. Good luck.

I know, Ive already got the manuals and have begun diving into the Primus 2000XP stuff.
Ive yet to get a class date for the type rating but the Chief Pilot says the folks In Montreal can accommodate operators on a relatively short notice.

Hey, Californians, I'll be there to help you all, soon! ---don't mind NordP's BMW...she bought it before the goofy Germans tried to strut their stuff...I just drive it around to remind them how much revenue they'll be losing if they don't get their priorities straight....all the best, W

Probably not, but he WILL be taxing your retirement benefits, no matter where you live in the future, since you were based in Kali. No longer the case, the federal gov passed a law disallowing what Ca was doing, and even though I planned on not paying any retirement tax to Ca anyway, I don't have to run and hide.
I moved when I retired, and pay taxes on my pension only to my new state.
To: KC_for_Freedom
That was quick thinking on the Government's part. Maybe that will be another tool to help us better this mess, in the future. Yah better treat people right or they'll leave, and take their money with 'em!

I Do wish you the best! And now that your leaving CA you can relax some I'm sure!
