"The concept of “a man’s home is his castle” dates back to English common law. But modern law dictates you can’t protect that castle with an illegal gun"(newsday) [In NY City you need a black belt in bureaucratic kung fu to own a gun,in one case (Dixon)he bought the gun legally in FL,it became "illegal" when he moved to the peoples republic of New York.(gunsmith free repub)] "on Dec. 14, Ronald Dixon, 27, wounded Ivan Thompson, 40, a longtime criminal, after Thompson broke into Dixon’s home and was heading toward the room of Dixon’s 2-year-old son, police said. A jury will not convict him, but it is a shame that he has to go through it. I hope someone has started a legal defense fund.

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes said: “We’re not disputing that Mr. Dixon had a right to shoot the person who broke into his house. But he had no right to have that gun.”

Good GRIEF.

Shoot, Shovel, Shut Up.

How hard can it be with anonymous parts of Staten Island being the final resting place of untold numbers of gangsters?

It's no accident that the world's largest garbage dump is called "Fresh Kills." :)

crap cases like this eventually got Prohibition overturned. Law has no meaning and warrants little respect when it makes a criminal of virtually everyone. Which, by the way, is what the tax code does, but that's neither here nor there.

I would love to see a website set up that chronicles every Defensive Gun Use in the country, and established a legal defense fund for all DGU actors.

Since Dixon there was another instance of home robber shootings, and that man too is being investigated.

NYC's continuing war against the second amendment.

In NY City you need a black belt in bureaucratic kung fu to own a gun,in one case (Dixon)he bought the gun legally in FL,it became "illegal" when he moved to the peoples republic of New York.(gunsmith free repub)

This is why I want to slap people who says guns are a states right issue, hello, the second amendment didn't give the right to bear arms to the state, it gave it to the people. Sad part is, if that intruder was black, and this guy was white, he'll probably get convicted. There's a better then 50/50 chance of a conviction in NYC, everywhere else, this gets total acquittal. If the jury hangs, Hynes, will, try him again, simply for fear of precendent.

This has been going on in NY state since 1910 or so. There have been plenty of well publicized cases of armed self defense over the decades, but the law has survived so far.

They're both black, as is the idiot DA. Check out the linked story.

Lucky for Dixon is that both he and the intruder are black so race is not an issue.

However, Hynes(the DA) is an unrepentant gun grabber and gun rights opponent. He will try to nail Dixon and whoever elsehe can to set them up as examples of what happens when you violate New York City's stupid draconian gun laws. Most of the city's residents with gun permits are either retired cops, who were given that right in exchange for their support of strict gun laws in NY via their union, or people with heavy political connections.

Ordinary citizens have a better chance of being hit by lightning in a cave than getting a carry gun permit in New York City.

Rifle and shotgun permits are still relatively easy without a criminal record. Slightly harder but not impossible are target permits that do not allow you to take the weapon out of your residence except twice a year to go target shooting and only with prior notification of when you intend to do so.

Since 1911 New York City has had the unconstitutional Sullivan Law. The year after it was passed homicides increased and except for the occasional drop every now and then they continue to increase. The problem is that we have a subculture in law enforcement (lawyers, DA's, Police unions and judges) that see the constituion and the second amendment as an inconvenience that gest in the way of their efforts to establish a police state where we will all be safe, except from the police and criminals.

Joe Hynes, the DA, has long been a disgrace to the concept of justice. He is a Stalinoid, or perhaps a hemerroid.

Hynes is NOT black. The disgrace that is MY DA happens to be a pale Irish American.
