***Northeast Snowstorm*** February 16-17 2003 (Official Thread)

Moderators, please pull if a similar thread has been started. I did a search on "snow" and blizzard" and came up with nothing.

What originally looked to be primarily a mid-Atlantic snowstorm has blossomed overnight into a monster snowstorm that threatens to shut down the major cities of the Northeast for tomorrow.

Just got the latest forecasts. Washington D.C. area will see 1-2 feet. Philly will see 17-34 inches according to their local mets. NYC will see 1-2 feet. And Southern New England (including Boston), which was originally thought to be missing this storm, is now pegged to get at least 10-20 inches before all is said and done with possible blizzard conditions tomorrow night as the storm explodes ("bombogenisis") off Nantucket island during the day.

Some very impressive snowfall reports already coming in despite the fact that the storm hasn't even developed off the coast yet. Some 8 inches is on the ground in the DC area and snow is falling heavily in the Philly area and parts of New Jersey. This snow is NOT from the storm that is expected to develop off the Carolinas this afternoon, move northeast and "explode" off Nantucket Island during tomorrow.

These storms are never a sure thing until they happen because they are so unpredictable. But this storm has all the ingredients to make it a storm of historic proportions from Washington D.C. to Portland, Maine. If everything falls together just right, we could be looking at 2 feet (or more) of snow in many urban areas of the Northeast over the next 36 hours.

Please post your local reports here.

I don't know what kind of a company this is - but while perusing the listings of local closings and cancellations at the website of the local TV station I cam across this one that just totally cracked me up:

Weather Or Not Inc No 1st, 2nd Shift

Just too funny!!!

Our snow pellets have now completely transitioned to sleet. That means Atlantic air is being ingested into the system. As the Hatteras low moves north, it will change back to snow - probably with a vengance.

I've actually run into a few of her type - and looks - in my battles with the nannies about smoking bans (but that's a whole different thing)!!!!!!

The reporter doing the live shot a few minutes ago said that while the snow was still coming down there were "nuggets" in it as well.

But 45 miles south - they just have rain at the moment.

Stay warm Gabz. I'm spared by this blizzard being so far north. And Tuesday it is supposed to be above freezing... a real live heatwave

I have a roaring fire in the fireplace, classical music on the stereo and Wild Turkey in my glass. I ain't about to go out and shovel 20 inches of snow. I don't need no golf course. Life is beautiful.

I don't blame you, I wouldn't go out in that either.

Actually we played a little golf today, but got a little chilly. When I got home, I had to put on long pants. It's now down to 60 degrees outside at 8:30 pm. Tomorrow will be a little chilly too, only suppose to get up to 71 degrees.

But were not going to let the bad weather bother us, there's a big birthday party tomorrow, so we'll be barbequing my specialty, my 1/2 pound Hadenuf burgers and homemade tamales, and Mexican style Margaritas.

No snow to shovel, but I do have a bunch of roses to cut and oranges to pick. I swear, the orange trees are going crazy this year.

Stay warm back there, and try turning on a bunch of lights, it helps in that dark and dreary, cold weather.

I'll be thinking of you guys. And hopefully there will only be two or three more months of your bad weather. Good luck.
