Had some tavern owner protected his property by blasting that old witch with both barrels of a 12-gage, America would likely have been saved a clintonload of difficulties. Prohibition not only empowered organized crime and dramatically increased government snoopiness, it spawned other laws like the 1934 National Firearms Act and the 1937 ban on marijuana in its demise.
