ABRAHAM LINCOLN: STATESPERSON AND DEMOCRATIC PARTY ACTIVIST
The Iconoclast ^ | February 6, 2003 | Paul Walfield

Marc Morano of CNSNews has reported that tours of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. aren't what they used to be. I can remember my first visit to D.C. way back when and my parents telling me about the Lincoln Memorial, and walking up the huge steps, and seeing the great man seated and looking majestic. I can even remember seeing his words etched in the stone all around me as I stood at his feet. It was striking, it was awe-inspiring.

I thought I had learned a good deal about Lincoln in school and felt like I knew him. I guess I was wrong.

Now, according to the Discovery Channel, Abraham Lincoln, Republican and the 16th President of the United States, was in reality a liberal Democrat. Moreover, not just any liberal Democrat. According to the folks at Discovery Channel, Abe Lincoln was slightly to the left of the late Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone......

More liberal-left infamy in the cultural war for the hearts and minds of the American people.

Isn't this Orwellian? Didn't he remark to the effect that to control the past is to control the future?

It's good to see the Discovery Channel finally coming to see what the people of the South have known since 1861.

Oh, well, better late than never, I guess.

Well, if Abe was a Democrat, then the Republicans surely aren't what they used to be.

Amen.

Lincoln was the beginning of the end for our Constitutional government.

I'm a conservative, and I consider myself and the party lucky to have Lincoln on our side.

One has to question who are the people behind the exhibits in our museums? Time to have fair and balanced curators. Heard the same about plans at Gettysburg to 'twist' history into fitting with the liberal agenda. This makes me sick and outraged....

Lincoln was unquestionably what we now think of as "liberal." His presidency was very smiliar to FDR's, in that he ignored the constitutional limits placed upon his office and greatly expanded presidential powers for his successors. His abuses of power are well-known, and are always excused by the court historians and the overwhelming majority of all Americans, whose knowledge of Lincoln is limited to McHistory soundbites about "freeing the slaves" and "saving the union." No one disputes the fact that he ignored the constitution by suspending the writ of habeous corpus, closed down scores of newspapers who dared to criticize his administration, threw unknown numbers of hapless northerners into dreadful makeshift prisons, and allowed his generals to practice a barbaric brand of prosecuting the war that left untold numbers of women and children starving and homeless. Like all Americans, I used to consider Lincoln a shining beacon, and chills ran down my spine when I read some of his timeless speeches. Then I read "The South Was Right" a few years ago. Unfortunately, for the mythical view of "Honest Abe," those inconvenient facts paint a far different picture.

I see the neo-Confederates are siding with the liberals again. They're started to make a habit of that.

I see that you are bumping a (true) statement that says: "Lincoln was the beginning of the end for our Constitutional government". Hmmmmm....Now I know why you worship TheLincoln. It seems I have been correct in suggesting you despised the Constitution, as was demonstrated when you called it a "Pact with the Devil". I knew you were subversive, Wlat, but apparently there may be seditious attributes to your character as well.

What did Lincoln and Wellstone have in common? You neo-Confederate idiots are agreeing with liberal propaganda with no basis in fact.

A teacher came into my antique store the other day and ranted and raved about what the children are being taught today in the public schools. It was very enlightening, and frightening at the same time. HIs daughter refuses to go along with the revisionists, and is suspended from school regularly according to him.

This article is just despicable, and shows me more and more that the democrats are doing all they can to change the direction of this nation from freedom to a socialist utopia where only their opinions and beliefs are recognized as truth.

That's not the only thing Wlat's said about the Constitution. Here's a little quote of his I recently stumbled upon in a newsgroup:

"If you non-U.S. citizens are wondering what the electoral college is and what bunch of ninnies thought it up: The US Constitution was written by rich white men like Washington, Madison, Hamilton, Randolph, and others. They wrote it for the benefit of rich white men like themselves. They didn't trust the common man --at all--, hence the college of electors, who didn't (and don't) necessarily have to vote for the candidate that carries their state. Here in Georgia, I didn't vote for Al Gore. I voted for nine Democratic Party hacks that promise to vote for Al when the college meets in December. Yeah, I know its crazy, but it works. Abraham LIncoln won the 1860 election with a clear victory in the Electoral College but only @ 40% of the popular vote."

Knowing his liberal democrat political affiliations, I wouldn't be suprised if he is happy about this one. I hope to make a trip down to the Lincoln Temple in a couple of days when the weather warms up and check out the video myself. I would seriously like to know which "historians" are listed in the credits.

"In this Temple, as in the hearts of the people, for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever" - Inscription above the statue of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Temple, Washington, District of Columbia
