SF CHRON ON FR: FReep This -- How The Right Wing Is Making Itself Heard

Something strange happened during the 2000 Gore-Bush election fiasco you may have missed.

CNN, which was running 24-hour special election coverage, hosted a program with conservative columnist Bob Novak shortly after the disputed election results were returned. Novak was adamant that Al Gore should quit trying to steal the election and concede. To bolster his point, he brought up the results of CNN.com's public-opinion poll "Should Al Gore concede?" Poll results showed that a full 89 percent of the thousands of people who had visited CNN.com and voted had agreed -- Gore should give up the ghost.

We are under attack and we don't need the child in on it.

Who is 'the child'?

"David Allen, founder and moderator of major liberal forum Democratic Underground, a popular site many think of as Free Republic's most direct ideologically opposite rival, agrees"

Oh stop!!! MAJOR liberal forum? Well, okay, I guess so. It is good for us if people think that anyway. Let those who read thses articles check out the 2 sites and see for themselves. I think the average politically ignorant American would get nauseous at the DU seeing their venomous attacks on the president and others, not to mention the juvenile proliferation of profanity. We may be very opinionated (okay, that's an understatement) but at least our opinions are largely based on facts, reason and morality. Over there facts are irrelevant, reason non-existent and morality is not allowed.

This little shot at FR could well have the opposite effect, by generating interest and encouraging people to visit both forums. Nice try Pitt.

Absolutely no acknowledgement by Laton of the TRUE source (Pitt) of the material she lifted:

"Online polls are silly -- everybody knows that," says liberal political analyst William Rivers Pitt, whose book War on Iraq: What Team Bush Doesn't Want You To Know made him something of a FReeper target for a time. "But it can have a real effect if it's brought out as news that actually means something. The best example is the Gore thing."

BTW, interesting that Pitt is merely described as "liberal." God forbid she uses the accurate "left-wing" to describe him. And if Laton were HONEST she would have mentioned that Pitt wrote a virtually IDENTICAL article about Freepers to hers almost two years ago.

I couldn't help but notice how, in Pitt's original article he compares us to people in chat rooms seeking out teenage girls, but it was left out of the "new" article by SF Gate... could it be because of his new-found partnership with Scott Ritter????

I hope her employer has been made aware of her plagiarism?

It would be ironic if she is fired because we FReeped her editor with info exposing her plagiarism.

"after FReepers heard that Julie Hiatt Steele, the woman charged with obstruction of justice by Kenneth Starr during President Clinton's impeachment trial, was taking credit-card donations to help pay her legal bills, they flooded her Web site with fake donations"

And they can prove this was FReepers how??

"at least one of them retaliated by posting Lawrence's home address, date of birth, driver's license number and physical description, plus information about her baby, to Free Republic -- and urged other FReepers to make use of that information"

Very wrong and information was pulled and the FReeper banned. So what is the problem? This isn't typical of FReepers.
