[history]
In an unusual move for a U.S. automaker, Ford Motor Co.'s Jaguar brand is launching an advertising campaign targeting gay consumers, the company said Tuesday.
The campaign germinated from a major internal study at Ford and Jaguar on how to reach gay consumers, which tend to be fairly affluent with a taste for luxury goods. Ford estimates there are some 14 million gay and lesbian consumers in the United States who wield $450 billion in purchasing power.

I think Ford will regret this. They may lose more customers than they gain. Let's wait and see.

This could be really bad for jaguar / ford stock prices to become stereotyped as a GAYMobile.

I must be dense, because it's not obvious to me that the ad targets the gay crowd. If I saw it in a magazine, I'd certainly not make the connection.

That's because the more explicit slogans were rejected by the focus groups, like this list:
5. What do Barney Frank, Elton John, and Rosie O'Donnell all have in common? Jaguar, of course!
4. Jaguar - the world's best rims.
3. Jaguar - queer cars for queer folks.
2. Jaguar - We won't ask. We won't tell.
and the number one rejected focus group slogan:
1. Do you like butt-sex with other men? Then buy Jaguar.
