DID I ASK TO BE ON YOUR PING LIST?

Apologies for the vanity post. But I want to rant a bit.
In the past few months, ping lists have proliferated to the point of annoyance. And it is especially irksome to find oneself on a list without having requested inclusion.
There's a word for this: .
Ponder this question, Chester: Did I ask to be on your #%&@ing ping list? No? Well, then. Draw the logical conclusion. If I wish to be on your ping list, rest assured you'll be the first to know. But while you wait with bated breath for my entreaty to be a party to your wisdom, I'll thank you not to make the assumption that I consider your blog indispensable.
Personally, I'd like to see pinging stopped entirely, via the placing of a limit on the number of people a post may be directed to -- preferably one, but no more than five, in my opinion. But failing that, it should at least be the case that unsolicited spam has no place on Free Republic.

Yeah, de-ping me, too.

BINGO! It would be nice it the software had put the receiver in control of the ping instead of the sender. I suppose it's buried so deep inthe code that making such a change is unworkable. Then again, maybe not :-)
At any rate, I too recently asked to be removed from the "Foxhole"
Someone spammed me and it wasn't polite.

I did not know this site catered to parties...I thought it was an awareness forum. That is, aware of Constitutional issues. The funny thing is, I met this guy at a Freeper party that was organized via ping lists and announcements.
I didn't realize he was only there learn and not have any fun.

Aren't you afraid you'll spoil the normal civility and decorum of the average WOD thread by pinging someone who's going to be ticked off about it?
To: SamAdams76
Sam, as a big fan of the
ONION, I gotta tell you that's one of the funniest posts I've ever seen.

The ping lists serve a purpose, but I agree that they're used excessively. I have had to ask repeatedly to be removed from ping lists, but at the same time I use them myself in some cases. In coordinating events and also for focusing on state issues, they are valuable. Also, I use one to alert to major developments on or new threads for the voter fraud thread, but I do try to be responsible about it because I know how annoying they can be as well and I have on occasion missed posts directed to me because they were buried in a sea of pings. And there are a couple of ping lists I appreciate being on. I guess it is one of those things where you take the bad with the good, but everyone should be encouraged to use them sparingly.

ROFL!!
LMAO!!
Honestly, I don't care to be pinged to things people think I might find of interest or whatever on a case by case basis.. But to just mindlessly spam these lists is kind of annoying.
Further, what's worse is when they do it with like a 10,000 x 10,000 pixel image that completely f'es up your self search window.
I swear, I have posted just to get their monster pic to dissappear, lose the scroll bar and get the screen back to normal.

"I've taken the liberty of putting you on my "I don't want to be on your ping list" ping list..." ROTFL!

Ummm...one Thursday a month, there is a social event here in L.A. (ATF night) that Jim not allows the host to make a thread for, he also allows him to put it in breaking news.
To: Bella_Bru
Some people like to be notified of certain threads, especially if they only log on to FR once every few days.True. And there's no law that says you have to read everything that someone pings to you.
I don't always have the time to search out the things that interest me, so I really appreciate the people who ping me on the good stuff.
What really DOES piss me off but good is this one person who pings me for no reason other than to bump threads. No content whatsoever, and I repeatedly asked that person to refrain from empty pings, and finally "yelled" at him or her.
To: tacticalogic
LOL! They make the mid-2000 Buchanan threads look like tea parties.

Spam thread.... Brilliant simplicity...

I did not know this site catered to parties...I thought it was an awareness forum. That is, aware of Constitutional issues. If you look on the front page of FR you will see support for our Veterans of war. Do you know any Dem sites that cater to that, or support war in the name of freedom?
