You evil conservative! You would saw up those tree gods when they are felled by Gaia or whatever just to drive past in your internal combustion engine?

Yup, and I'll dig out plugged culverts too.

Remember the 86/87 floods. High tide and heavy rain. What a mess.

Yes. March '86, it seemed it would never stop coming down. The brown water on the American River(this river is never brown) was within five feet of the top of the levees near downtown Sacramento. Brush floating downstream appeared to be making about 30-35mph.

I don't know about Hwy 29 cafe. I don't get down that way much. Red Hen is still there and I have to say it has the best margaritas ever.

the road splits ahead, to the right you must stay.If you've decifered the code, just nod, and say "hey". Now that we're no longer speaking in code!

Couldn't help myself, your reply sounded like something from a spy movie.:^)

More on the 'wobble' when you have a chance, thanks....

If I'm not mistaken, we had high water on Valentine Day and then on Washington's birth day weekend we really had the flood gates open. Then in March we had another bad episode.

We found an underground dry creek under our house during that time period. That cost me a few bucks in fixing foundations and routing the water around.

Is the HWY.29 Cafe still in business? That was one of the good things about going to Mare Island. The HWY 29. What a great place the diner was.

Yes, the Hwy. 29 is still there, as great as ever.

.A MAJOR WINTER STORM WILL AFFECT THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA THIS WEEKEND. THE STORM WILL BRING HEAVY RAIN AND STRONG WINDS TO THE ENTIRE REGION...WITH THE MOST WIDESPREAD STORM CONDITIONS EXPECTED ON SATURDAY.

We've had around three inches in the last 12 hours or so, and are getting pounded right now.

Time to pull out the hip boots!

It has been raining steady since about 4:30 am.

The last 45 minutes, the steady has increased to a whole lot. It is now whipping in from the SE. Whenever that happens we get a lot of rain.

Fortunately, my wife bought me a new set of chest waders last month. Hipwaders may not be enough!

I had tentative plans of going up to the Kali/Oregon border to fish the Chetco and Smith Rivers this coming week. I will not be doing that. They are getting hammered up there.

The Smith was probably fishable for about two hours. It's gotta look like a chocolate milkshake by now.

It had been closed for low flows. Yesterday afternoon the Fish Game Gods reopened it to fishing above the estuary.

Now it is only open to those trying to earn a Darwin award. :)

That is a beauty/native steelhead!

Looks like a Spey Fly Rod behind the fisher! If I fished those waters, my 7 weight Spey rod would be left at home. Only my 10 and 9/10 rods would be with me.

Five years ago there was an incredible steelhead run on the American River in early January. The water was very high and where they were, we could not cast a fly rod. So I went up with my Steelhead Spinning Rod and cast hardware. I had the best day of my life. I caught and released 12 native steelheads from 8 to just under 12 pounds. I had at least 10 fish break off and just shred 12 pound test line.

I went back up two days later and one about the size in your picture struck and ran. I set the hook and just about lost my rod. My right should was so sore from the previous fishing, I had to pass my rod to the guy next to me. I would have lost the rod.

Hopefully this rain will send this year's fish back up but not until after Christmas.
