Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my General Interest ping list!. . .don't be shy.
The title isn't very savy, IMHO. That isn't the way to wage modern war. 1. Train local freedom fighters. Any country targeted by the US hates freedom and has oppressed masses. 2. Bomb the snot out of them. 3. Coordinate specicial forces with freedom fighters for surgical strikes and morale shifters to accumulate more anti-regime followers. 4. BIDE YOUR TIME. Time is always on the side of a mobile, invading force, especially if the populace hates their regime. 5. Win their hearts and minds-- just like in Afghanistan. 6. Only move in standard US infantry at the final stage of your plan, if ever. [Obviously, you gather as much intelligence and spread as much confusion to the enemy as possible during that time.]
I used to be somewhat neutral on Iraq due to Realpolitik. However, it has been quite some time since a country that has been defeated so badly has mocked our surrender treaty so forcefully.
If Saddam has half a brain, he will cooperate and try to build bridges with us. I think he is a cunning guy but the events of the last decade have stomped out any strategic sense that he might have had.
It might also be good to thoroughly trounce a great Arab power. Hey, the ball is in his court and if he wants it like this, it is his choice. He is attempting to play games so the UN will save him. He doesn't get that the UN cant save him. He will comply or be destroyed.
It's funny but I didn't see Liberals up in arms over Clintons bombing of civilians in Serbia. Perhaps it is because Mr. Milosevic is white instead of Arab.
Also, President Bush will not EXCLUSIVELY target civilians like President Clinton. Of course, since he was a Democrat, that makes it OK to Hollywood. Nevermind that Saddam has slain FAR more Arabs and Persians then Milosevic could ever dream of.
Nevermind that Milosevic was responding to insurgency by moslems in his own land by the KLA. So they fled to Albania. I have a lot of problems with the way Milosevic handled this but he pales in comparison to Hussein.
I am starting to feel embarassed for Hollywoods utter partisanship. Anti-war, yeah right.
On a final note, if Lt. Speicher is still alive, I hope he can get home. If not, I hope we avenge him and lay his soul to rest. After reading the Brits reports on Iraqi torture, I feel terribly sorry for him in any case.
May God watch over him.
Arioch7 out.
