USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ Canteen Thanksgiving Messages to the Military ~ November 27 2002
68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub and FRiends of the Canteen

On the eve of Thanksging in the continental United States we pause to remember those who are overseas.
Many of our service men and women will be spending their 1st Thanksgiving
away from home, family and friends.
Today military stationed in countries overseas will be celebrating Thanksgiving.
It is because of their devotion to duty, honor and country
that we will be able to celebrate our Thanksgiving tomorrow.

Senior U.S. officers serve their troops an elaborate Thanksgiving Dinner at Camp Doha in Kuwait on November 22, 2001.
U.S. soldiers serving in Kuwait, including some who had just arrived from the United States,
later headed to the Kuwaiti desert
for a military exercise close to the border with former occupier Iraq.

A philosophy professor stood before his class with some items on the table in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, about 2" in diameter.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and
poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He then asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "Yes." The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and proceeded to pour their entire contents into the jar – effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed. "Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
"I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, and your children - things that if every- thing else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter - like your job, your house, and your car.
"The sand is everything else. The small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued "there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life.
If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal. "Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter.
"Set your priorities. The rest is just sand." One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented.
The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers."

God said unto Adam " You have been quiet lately - is there something wrong?
Adam said he didn't have anyone to talk to. So God said that He would make
him a companion and that it would be a woman.

And God said "A woman will gather food for you, cook for you and when you
discover clothing, she will wash it for you. She will always agree with
every decision you make. She will bear children and never ask you to get up
in the middle of the night to take care of them. She will not nag you and
will always be the first to admit she was wrong when you have a
disagreement. She will never get a headache and will freely give you love
and passion whenever you want"

Adam asked "What will it cost me?"

God replied "An arm and a leg" Adam asked "What can I get for a rib?"

THE REST IS HISTORY.

Happy Thanksgiving, Kathy, Jayne, B4 and Mudboy, all! Thank you for posting #71, B4Ranch.

He began to get belligerent at that point, and I told him if he would like to, I would meet him outside in front of the Burger King and beat his ass in front of the entire Multi-National Brigade East, thus demonstrating that even the smallest American had more fight in him than the average Frenchman.

I am thankful that Mary Beth Johnson LtCol, USMC, is on our side. God bless America. (^:

Simple Thanksgiving eve fare at the Canteen today...thus giving the chefs time to create a feast for tomorrow - and the anticipation, fresh air, memories of Thanksgivings past and the smell of turkey roasting make Thanksgiving dinner the best-tasting meal of the year. So go out and play a game of touch football and breath in the crisp, fall air. (^:

Cheeseburgers, club sandwiches w/ fries and/or

Salad...

 Hot fudge
 brownie
sundae

Off to bake the pies for tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve to the Canteen crew, Freepers and especially to our troops....for whom we are truly grateful.

Amen.
