USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ Canteen Thanksgiving Messages to the Military ~ November 27 2002
68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub and FRiends of the Canteen

Posted on 11/27/2002 5:37:54 AM PST by 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub

On the eve of Thanksging in the continental United States we pause to remember those who are overseas.
Many of our service men and women will be spending their 1st Thanksgiving
away from home, family and friends.
Today military stationed in countries overseas will be celebrating Thanksgiving.
It is because of their devotion to duty, honor and country
that we will be able to celebrate our Thanksgiving tomorrow.

Senior U.S. officers serve their troops an elaborate Thanksgiving Dinner at Camp Doha in Kuwait on November 22, 2001.
U.S. soldiers serving in Kuwait, including some who had just arrived from the United States,
later headed to the Kuwaiti desert
for a military exercise close to the border with former occupier Iraq.

A young couple got married and left on their
honeymoon. When they got back, the bride
immediately called her mother. "Well," said
her mother "so-how was the honeymoon?"

"Oh, mama," she replied, "the honeymoon was
wonderful! So romantic..."
Suddenly she burst out crying. "But, mama,
as soon as we returned Sam started using the
most horrible language - things I'd never
heard before! I mean, all these awful 4-letter
words! You've got to come get me and take me
home...PLEASE MAMA!"

"Sarah, Sarah," her mother said, "calm down!
Tell me, what could be so awful? WHAT 4-letter
words?"

"Please don't make me tell you, mama," wept
the daughter, "I'm so embarrassed- they're
just too awful! COME GET ME, PLEASE !!!"

"Darling, baby, you must tell me what has you
so upset... Tell your mother these horrible
4-letter words!"

Still sobbing, the bride said, "Oh, mama...
words like: Dust, Wash, Iron, Cook...."

From a Marine in Bosnia. Note the signature, but read it last.

A funny thing happened to me yesterday at Camp Bondsteel (Bosnia): A French army officer walked up to me in the PX, and told me he thought we (Americans) were a bunch of cowboys and were going to provoke a war. He said if such a thing happens, we wouldn't be able to count on the support of France.

I told him that it didn't surprise me. Since we had come to France's rescue in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold war, their ingratitude and jealousy was due to surface at some point in the near future anyway.

That is why France is a third-rate military power with a socialist economy and a bunch of wimps for soldiers. I additionally told him that America, being a nation of deeds and action, not words, would do whatever it had to do, and France's support was only for show anyway. Just like in ALL NATO exercises, the US would shoulder 85% of the burden, as evidenced by the fact that the French officer was shopping in the American PX, and not the other way around.

He began to get belligerent at that point, and I told him if he would like to, I would meet him outside in front of the Burger King and beat his ass in front of the entire Multi-National Brigade East, thus demonstrating that even the smallest American had more fight in him than the average Frenchman.

He called me a barbarian cowboy and walked away in a huff. With friends like these, who needs enemies?

But now that you mention it, for just a minute there I thought we'd get a chance to 'meet' you live and nationwide!

Oh well...

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION

The light of God surround you
The love of God enfold you
The power of God protect you
The presence of God watch over you
Wherever you are,God is,
And all is well.
Amen.

.

Bless This House

Bless this house O Lord we pray;

Make it safe by night and day;

Bless these walls so firm and stout,

Keeping want and trouble out:

Bless the roof and chimneys tall,

Let thy peace lie over all;

Bless this door, that it may prove

ever open to joy and love.

Bless these windows shining bright,

Letting in God's heav'nly light;

Bless the hearth a'blazing there,

with smoke ascending like a prayer;

Bless the folk who dwell within,

keep them pure and free from sin;

Bless us all that we may be

Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;

Bless us all that one day we

May dwell O Lord with thee.

Bless This House hummed along with this morning, twice because I love this song for our USO Canteen, and Prayer of Protection said for all who enter the USO Canteen Freeper Style, including our troops, our veterans, their families and our allies. Welcome to all who come to honor our troops, for whom this USO Canteen was created.
