I've been debating whether or not to post this as I don't intend to open up a religous discussion on this thread. However, election time is drawing near, and our liberties are at stake. I've heard repeated calls on FR to get out and vote. I encourage that as well. Many have said that this election will depend on which party does better with their "get out and vote" methods. We must certainly do our best.

However, I would like to take it a step further. This election may be beyond our control, but we need to recognize that there is one who is sovereign over all.

I say this to suggest that we should be offering up a petition of prayer from now until the election is finalized. I also suggest fasting as a sign of the importance of this issue to yourself. I've started my fast. If you agree to pray and/or fast with me over this, reply to this message with an acknowlegement. I believe if enough people agree to do this diligently, great things will happen.

>The God is concerned with ALL truth - He was concerned
>with Bill Clinton and He's concerned with you too (as
>a father loves his children)

and if this IS the case, I'm truly thankful for it. however, I simply don't see evidence of it. I'm sure I'll be greeted by dozens of people who tell me I'm not looking hard enough, but the truth is, in the context of this forum, the nation is sliding leftward and downward... and accelerating.

referring to Him as "god" (lower case) is disrespectful (Im sure its unintentional)

oh, it's INTENTIONAL, in the sense that I don't capitalize much of anything... but it's not intentionally disrespectful, which is (I think) what you were saying.

but I have a question for you... if God's plan is to be carried out regardless, what does prayer do? are we hoping to convince God to change his opinion?

Ecclesiastes 10:2-3 NIV

2 The heart of the wise inclines to the right,
but the heart of the fool to the left.
3 Even as he walks along the road,
the fool lacks sense
and shows everyone how stupid he is.

here's the thing... I think your post holds true without the first two lines. I don't see God as being necessary for morality.

I've been praying for weeks and will continue tonight into tomorrow - or until the recounts are over, LOL.

A supernatural entity capable of creating the ENTIRE universe doesn't need prodding from a few earthly partisans from planet Earth's richest

As a Christian, one of the most profound things that I have learned from reading the Gospels is Jesus telling us over and over again that God is our Father. He's not Zeus or Apollo. He's even beyond the God as described in the Old Testament. The relationship was defined with Jesus. He is our Heavenly Father that loves us as his children.

I have to ask then, why do people make such a big deal out of whether someone is Christian, or Jewish, or Muslim, or whatever. Does that mean that all the beliefs are correct, or none of them, or it doeasn't really matter?

I view organized religion as an artificial comfort. there's nothing lonely (or "not lonely") about it at all.

"...do you think he/she/it is really worrying about whether or not norm coleman defeats walter mondale?"

Worry, impossible for nothing happens outside of God's plan. Evil is prevalent throughout the world and history, however, God has shown over and over again, how He uses the evil actions of men to accomplish His purposes. Yes, I believe God is in ALL the details. When He permits a Yassar Arafat to exist, there is a reason... granted, I can't fathom why, but I'm not the eternal, sovereign creator either.

I look at it this way... He very well could be allowing a slide to immorality as a vessel to mobilize his own to spread a word to those who need God most in their lives. Its not going to take 2 years/ post Clinton... God has lots of time on his hands to make changes you may not view as fast enough relative to your own life span.

what does prayer do?

Tomes have been written on this by minds much greater than mine. The most simple thing that I can say is that true prayer/meditation gives you peace.

What you should do is leave this thread and not besmeerch these fine God loving believers. This thread was offered up to all of those who are believers, so that they can offer up their prayers for tomorrows election.

If you are not one of belief, then you should just keep quite and not try to belittle their/our efforts.

Whose is to say it was not God who answered our prayers during the 2000 presidential election? I know that I for one spent much time on my knees praying for GW Bush during the Florida mess. I feel sure it was He who pulled that victory out for us.

so again, why pray? if we don't know what's best for us, aren't we just trumpeting ignorance half the time?

and what's next? should I leave this forum altogether, so you can make it exclusively christian? maybe my vote can leave this forum too - and it WOULD if I were lazy enough to interpret your intolerance as representative.

I am with Jerry Falwell...he said ANYONE WHO TAKES THEIR BIBLE SERIOUSLY WILL NOT VOTE DEMOCRAT.

AMEN to that! Words to live by!!
